Overwhelming Response to Mill City Commons' 5th Annual Holiday Food Drive and Fundraiser

"I was truly humbled by our members' generosity during this year's Turkey, Dressings and Extra Helpings campaign", reported Linnea Tweed, Executive Director of Mill City Commons. "We more than doubled last year's financial contributions, and we had an amazing crew of 14 members who delivered pallets of groceries to Ascension School in North Minneapolis. Principal Dorwatha Woods had volunteers ready to put together gift baskets for 75 families she had identified."

MCC members and friends donated nearly $6,000 to buy groceries.  Once again, Rainbow Foods Store Manager, Jeff Hamm, assisted with the project.  The gift baskets consisted of either a turkey or pork roast, a 10# bag of potatoes, a bag of oranges or apples, flour, cooking oil, and much more - enough food for multiple meals.  An added bonus was having surplus funds available to contribute to Ascension's food shelf.

The name of the campaign is "Turkey, Dressings and Extra Helpings" because in addition to the food donations, clothing and gifts are also donated to local non-profits.  Per Linnea, six carloads of clothing and gifts were delivered to three homeless shelters in downtown Minneapolis.
