The Twin Cities community is invited to a free event at DeLaSalle High School on September 26 (or to Walk Anywhere) - optional donations and individual fundraisers support $100,000 goal for children's beds.
Twin Cities nonprofit My Very Own Bed will host its 6th Annual Steps for Sleep walk and wellness event on Saturday, September 26, from 3:00-5:30pm at DeLaSalle High School on Nicollet Island. This free, all-ages community gathering combines a scenic outdoor walk through Boom Island Park, an interactive Wellness Fair, and family-friendly activities to highlight the powerful link between physical activity and healthy, restorative sleep for children and families. More info.
Open before and after the walk, the interactive Wellness Fair offers practical tools to improve daily energy and sleep. Attendees can try hands-on activities, explore new movement and stress-relief techniques, connect with local health experts, and take home giveaways to help the entire family build healthier habits.
Steps for Sleep pairs active fun for the community with a goal to raise $100,000 through sponsors, donors, and peer-to-peer fundraisers. All proceeds directly fund brand-new beds and personalized Dream Kits for local children moving out of shelters and into stable homes.
A good night’s sleep is essential for a child’s physical health, emotional stability, and academic success. Yet across the Twin Cities, thousands of kids sleep on floors, air mattresses, or share overcrowded beds. Since 2014, My Very Own Bed has delivered more than 12,000 beds and Dream Kits, including a new mattress, frame, sheet set, blanket, mattress pad, pillow, stuffed animal, and age-appropriate books. In 2026 alone, the organization aims to reach 2,100 more children.
