Mu Performing Arts is excited to host a launch party for Asian American Plays for a New Generation, an exciting new collection of plays edited by Josephine Lee, Don Eitel, and R. A. (Rick) Shiomi.
Celebrating the publication of this volume of Asian American plays, most of which were produced or commissioned by Mu Performing Arts, the event will include a reception followed by speakers and readings by editors and contributors to the anthology. The Minneapolis Riverfront Partnership and Above the Falls Citizens Advisory Committee are hosting a series of forums to help us envision and shape a vibrant riverfront. Ten years after the visionary Above the Falls plan for the Mississippi River above St. Anthony Falls was adopted, the transformation of the Minneapolis riverfront is getting a jump-start.
Both the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and the City of Minneapolis will soon be making choices that will help shape the future of this segment of the river and our city for generations to come.

Beginning with the arrival of Minnesota’s first rail line in 1862, Minneapolis boomed in population, flour milling, lumber production and warehousing as a rail network extended throughout the Upper Midwest. Take a guided tour to discover the impact of railroads on the Mill City, visiting railroad landmarks such as the Stone Arch Bridge, Milwaukee Road Depot and the Minneapolis Eastern Railway engine house & trestle. Along the way, find clues to the vanishing railroad landscape and learn about the new rail era that is arriving with the Hiawatha light rail and the North Star commuter rail. The tour will begin and end at Mill City Museum, where participants can visit the museum’s gallery, included in the price of the tour.

The tour will highlight the life in the village of St. Anthony, changes along Main Street throughout the years, and such landmarks as the 1855 Upton Block, 1858 Martin & Morrison Building, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, the Pillsbury A Mill and the Chalybeate Mineral Springs. Who doesn’t want to play with water and make your own paper on hot summer day? Students are encouraged to gather flowers, seeds, and leaves from the outdoor to incorporate into unique sheets of cotton paper. These sheets can then be transformed into cards, collages and stationary, which represent the season. Your paper can be planted and grow!

This event was started by a patient family and has grown to over 1,900 participants. It celebrates the work of Children's physicians, nurses, staff, and volunteers and recognizes the quality of life provided by innovation and technology.
In it’s short history, this event has raised over $1.2 million dollars for the cardiovascular program and family needs fund at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. Children’s has one of the largest cardiovascular programs in the region and cares for nearly two-thirds of pediatric patients hospitalized for cardiac surgery in the metropolitan area. The proceeds from this event have helped fund outlook materials that provide valuable information for newly diagnosed families, 48-hour digital heart rhythm recording equipment, and ultrasound transducer adapters that help improve diagnostic capabilities.
The annual HeartBeat 5000 5K Walk/Run and Kids Fun Run will be held Saturday, June 25, 2011. The course begins on the north side of the StoneArch Bridge in Minneapolis near the Mississippi River. Proceeds from this event benefit cardiac care at Children’s. Individual and corporate sponsorships are available. Composition Camp Students ages 11 - 18 prepare a personal score of music and receive coaching from MacPhail teaching artists to build their composition skills. The 2011 Twin Cities River Rats season kicked off Thursday, June 2. Shows are scheduled for 7pm Thursday nights through August 25, and take place at 1628 West River Road (between the Plymouth and Broadway).
The Twin Cities Rivers Rats describe their show as an aquatic Broadway musical featuring multiple water ski acts choreographed to music and built around a theme.
