Time: 4:30pm-6:00pm

Location: Minneapolis Park and Rec Board, 2117 West River Road

Join us for next Ecological Systems Plan CAC Meeting April 24!

The next Ecological System Plan Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting is scheduled Monday, April 24, 2017, 4:30-6:00pm at teh Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board headquarters, 2117 West River Road. This project will set vision for more environmentally friendly Minneapolis parks and public land

This meeting will focus on setting goals for seven plan topics suggested by the CAC (air quality issues, carbon sequestration, urban heat island effect, stormwater management, biodiversity and habitat quality, habitat connectivity, sustainable energy generation) as well as priorities for how those goals are addressed.

What is the Ecological Systems Plan?

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization (MWMO) are preparing the first-ever Ecological System Plan. This plan will set a vision for making parks and public lands more friendly to the environment.

The Ecological System Plan will seek to first understand the ecology of the city and watershed, then plan for parks and public lands management and improvements that benefit both humans and nature.

It will address specific threats such as climate change, decreasing water quality, explosion of invasive species, increasing runoff, and fragmentation of habitat. It will envision a more environmentally sound way of managing the impacts of the city, so that the city can be cleaner, greener, cooler, and more efficient.

April 21, 2017, Friday - Prometheus Bound opens at Uprising Theatre Company (thru April 29)

Prometheus Bound

The play tells the story of how Prometheus came to be incarcerated, and how — through continued disobedience — he becomes the most iconic prisoner of all time.

The word marturos in ancient Greek means “witness.” A martyr is a witness. Prometheus was a god who broke the law. For this crime, he was locked away in solitary confinement, a punishment to which the United States is currently consigning approximately twenty-five thousand of the more than two million American citizens who now live behind bars, one of the few first-world countries still deploying this outmoded, dehumanizing punishment for long durations and on such a large scale. It’s as if Aeschylus, too, was saying: This is how it works.

Prometheus Bound is the story of how martyrs are made.
