Engineering the Falls: Walking Tour by History Player William de la Barre

Take a walking tour of St. Anthony Falls led by costumed History Player William de la Barre, the Austrian engineer who spent half a century developing Minneapolis flour milling and waterpower. Participants will visit the Minneapolis Riverfront, the west side milling district and the Stone Arch Bridge, and hear about the many ways the falls has changed over the years.

Minneapolis Riverfront Walking Tour

Visit the historic district at St. Anthony Falls, which was once the milling center of the world and is now a growing cultural, recreational and residential neighborhood. A guide from Mill City Museum will lead visitors onto the Stone Arch Bridge for spectacular views of the falls, surrounding historic buildings and downtown Minneapolis while telling stories of the people who have worked and lived in the area.

2nd Annual Night Owl Classic – Twin Cities

From Mill City Times:


The Night Owl Classic is a 16.5-mile or 8.5-mile non-competitive bike ride along the Mississippi River at dusk.  The ride will start and finish at historic St. Anthony Main and tour some of the Twin Cities most well known landmarks all with the backdrop of the setting sun, rising moon and twinkling skyline.


Riders will be welcomed by a pre-ride kick off and registration starting at 6:30pm.  Two rides will be offered:


A Family ride, 8.5-mile ride departing from 7:00-7:30PM


A Hoot of a ride, 16.5-mile adult departing from 7:30-8:00PM

Greening the Riverfront Series - Washburn A Mill Tour

"Greening the Riverfront" is a series of programs exploring our relationship with nature, past, present and future.  One of the programs features three Tuesday night tours. The first two took place in July (Pillsbury A Mill and St. Anthony Falls Laboratory), and the third is happening August 17.

Student Visions, Future Realities?

Many of us engaged in river work get stuck in the details of "getting the next thing done."  This is understandable, given how much there is that can be done, how many people and organizations are involved, and how complex truly interesting and transformative projects are.


But we don't give ourselves an awful lot of room to dream.  And when we do dream, locked into our organizational boxes as we are, the future tends to look a lot like the present but more (more ecological, more popular, etc.)
