On Monday, October 8, the RiverFirst Initiative debuted the new RiverFirst.com website, complete with dramatically different design that reflects the sweeping scope of the Mississippi River ... and the work we’re doing to redefine our relationship to it with 21st-century parks design.

It's a Go: Steering Committee Meets

On Thursday, October 11, the RiverFirst Steering Committee met to learn about R1 Initiative progress during our start-up phase and to provide input on the Committee’s composition. The highlights:

Jeremy Hanson Willis, of Minneapolis CPED, announced that the Above the Falls Master Plan - originally created in 2000, and now under review - will be presented by year-end. ATF review relates to the Port of Minneapolis, also known as the Upper Harbor Terminal, which is identified as the site of an R1 Priority Project called Northside Wetlands.

Tom Leader, of the R1 Design Team TLS/KVA, presented a mid-scope slideshow, outlining the Design Team’s structure and timeframe, and showcasing some fantastic images from their early work on schematic design of Scherer Park, especially.

Jon Commers, of Donjek, Inc., also gave a presentation about his process and progress on preparing the RiverFirst Finance Strategy.

Finally, Mary deLaittre of the Minneapolis Parks Foundation, gave an update on communications strategy, and later, invited the Steering Committee to provide names of institutions whose presence on the Committee will of short- and long-term value to the effort.
