April 8, 2015, Wednesday - Unveiling Downtown East Commons Concept Designs at Mill City Museum

Time: 6:00pm-7:30pm

Location:  Mill City Museum, 704 South 2nd Street

The purpose of this meeting is to unveil concept designs and gather public feedback for Downtown East Commons.

The City of Minneapolis is embarking on a once-in-a-generation opportunity to design and build a new public open space in Downtown Minneapolis. The Downtown East Commons is a 4.2-acre site located next to new office and residential buildings, light rail, and the new multi-purpose stadium. The Commons will serve the downtown community, workers, visitors, residents of Minneapolis and the region. It will also host events connected to the new stadium.

The City of Minneapolis has hired a world renowned team led by landscape architects Hargreaves Associates to design a welcoming green venue that will serve as a respite from the work day, a neighborhood park and an entertainment destination.

Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to comment and ask questions about each approach. The design team will consolidate the feedback they receive at this meeting into a single preferred scheme for the Downtown East Commons design. The City currently has a public meeting planned for Wednesday, May 27, 2015 to present the preferred approach. The location is yet to be determined. For more details on the Downtown East Commons project visit the project website.

April 7, 2015, Tuesday - Transit for Livable Communities Happy Hour at Republic

Time: 5:00pm - 7:00pm

Location: Republic, 221 Cedar Ave S

Transportation on Tap: The Transportation Session

TLC's 2015 Transportation on Tap happy hour event series kicks off on Tuesday, April 7! We invite you to Republic to enjoy light appetizers on us and to talk bike, walk, bus, and rail with other TLC members and friends.

This month we'll dig into policy and politics with a focus on the Transportation Session.

At this point, Minnesota's Governor, Senate, and House all have said transportation funding is a priority this legislative session. But what does that really mean for transit, bicycling, and walking? How do we get beyond metro vs. Greater MN rhetoric for a statewide solution? What needs to happen at the State Capitol and on the ground before a final deal is reached?

Bring your questions for another lively happy-hour conversation with our featured panel:

Katie Hatt, Transportation & Public Policy Consultant
Vayong Moua, Senior Advocacy & Health Equity Principal, Center for Prevention, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Minnesota
Bethany Winkels, Field Director, Move MN
Dave Van Hattum (moderator), Advocacy Director, Transit for Livable Communities

All are welcome but RSVPs are much appreciated.

Our event location is conveniently served by the METRO Green Line (West Bank Station) and many Metro Transit bus routes. Bike parking is available near the front entrance.
