The Marcy Arts Gala is an annual event held to support arts programming at Marcy Open school, a public school serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The funds raised at the gala enable the Marcy Arts Partnership to bring a variety of in-depth arts programs and residencies to every student at Marcy Open School, many of whom would otherwise never have such opportunities. 

Now in it's 14th year, the Marcy Arts Gala is a delightful event, which allows attendees to engage in some of the best in local visual and performing arts and entertainment. The gala's live and silent auctions will include more than 200 pieces of original art from local and national artists. Musicians performing this year include Global Prairie Rock, the Dreamland Faces, Spooner & Sellars, Ethan Osland, and Marcy alumni of the Charlie Lincoln Trio will perform throughout the evening. Local fare from Create Catering, Sen Yai Sen Lek, Restaurant Alma, and Brasa will be an event highlight.

Join the Twin Cities to Cuba Urban Agriculture Delegation at 6PM on Thursday, April 16th for a presentation and discussion about urban agriculture. The group will give a short presentation on their experience in Cuba this past January visiting urban farms and farm cooperatives, the Ministry of Agriculture, INIFAT (an urban agriculture research station) and community food education organizations. Following the presentation, we will bring themes of the trip back to the Twin Cities and break into discussion groups. Examples of discussion topics are: land access, cooperative economics, local food access, and urban agriculture public policy.

Preserving our planet for future generations is an important initiative, and it takes awareness and effort to make it happen. Each year, Earth Day on April 22 is a reminder of that cause. Earth Day was created in 1970 and really helped usher in a new age of environmental preservation.

This year, Hennepin County be celebrating Earth Day presented by Hennepin County with an event at Target Field Station on April 22 from 4-6 p.m. The event will include food, music, giveaways and much more. Be sure to plan your Earth Day around this fun downtown get-together.

Residents of the Nicollet Island-East Bank Neighborhood, especially those who live on Nicollet Island, are invited to join the DeLaSalle school community in their Island Cleanup event on Saturday, April 18.

Volunteers will meet at DeLaSalle, then go out in groups to clean up Nicollet Island. DeLaSalle encourages volunteers to bring a rake and gloves, if they have them. The work will include raking, picking up garbage, and other cleanup efforts.
