Brian Peterson: Photographer Brian Peterson was born in Duluth, Minnesota, and has enjoyed a career that allows him to pursue stories he cares most about in his home state and around the world. He’s best known for his work since 1987 for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, but his photographs have also been seen in National Geographic and Sports Illustrated magazines, the New York Times.

Brian has been recognized nationally and internationally for his documentary photojournalism, and has been honored nine times as Minnesota Press Photographer of the Year. He has photographed the Winter and Summer Olympic Games five times and his sports photography has been honored by the national baseball and football Halls of Fame and the National Press Photographers Association.

Peterson has published two books “Voices for the Land and “Minnesota – State of Wonders” and has won three Minnesota Book Awards.

Renée Jones Schneider: Renée Jones Schneider has been a Star Tribune photographer for 13 years and covered some of the company’s biggest assignments, including when a Hmong hunter opened fire, killing six other hunters in Rice Lake, Wis. Her recent long-term projects, shooting both multimedia and stills, include a series on deradicalization of extremist groups locally and nationally, an investigation of farm safety and an in-depth report on the decline of the honey bee. This year, Renee was named Journalist of the Year by Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists.

Before joining the Star Tribune, Renee worked for the Owatonna People’s Press and the Faribault Daily News. In 2004, Renee placed in the prestigious World Press Awards for a photo of a pouty fourth-place wrestler on an awards podium.

Renée was born in Dublin, Ireland and moved to Minnesota with her parents as a child. She attended St. Olaf College majoring in studio art. Halfway through that major that she discovered photography, during two overnights on a documentary project at St. Paul’s famous Mickey’s Diner. It was her first taste of how a camera and observation can introduce you to the most interesting people you would otherwise never meet.

November 15, 2016, Tuesday - River Matters: The Upper River: Our Next Big Development Opportunity? at CenterPointe Energy

Time: Doors open at 7:30am; Program 8:00 – 9:00am

Location: CenterPoint Energy, 505 Nicollet Mall

Minneapolis Riverfront Partnership presents: River Matters: The Upper River: Our Next Big Development Opportunity?

The revitalization of Minneapolis’ Central Riverfront is one of our city’s great urban success stories. But there is more Mississippi Riverfront — more than five miles of it — above St. Anthony Falls, and it is poised for transformation as well. The City of Minneapolis and Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board are currently considering plans for the Upper Harbor Terminal, 48 acres of city-owned land near Dowling Avenue. Longtime visions of open space and trails along the Upper River are being realized.

How can this transformation benefit the region, the city and those who live nearby? What can we learn from other cities that have reclaimed their riverfront? Join Peter Hendee Brown, Jim Vos and the Minneapolis Riverfront Partnership for a discussion of the potential and the challenges of redeveloping Minneapolis’ Upper River. Peter authored America’s Waterfront Revival: Port Authorities and Urban Redevelopment, an in-depth look at the urban renewal of four very different waterfronts. Jim, with more than 30 years in the commercial real estate industry, is often called upon by the media to provide perspective on economic trends and their impact on corporate real estate markets.

A complimentary light breakfast will be served. River Matters is a quarterly series of discussions among key civic leaders around the opportunities of riverfront revitalization in the Minneapolis' Upper River. River Matters is an initiative of the Minneapolis Riverfront Partnership. Special thanks to their sponsors for this event: CenterPoint Energy and Highland Bank. Free.

November 12, 2016, Saturday - Dinner Detective at Courtyard Minneapolis Downtown

Time: Doors open at 6:00pm

Location: Courtyard Minneapolis Downtown, 1500 Washington Avenue S

Dinner Detective Minneapolis

The Dinner Detective is America’s LARGEST, award-winning interactive comedic murder mystery dinner show! Our high-energy, modern-day whodunit is combined with a full four-course meal.

Our immensely popular murder mystery shows are set in the present day. Unlike other murder mystery dinner shows (or just dinner shows in general), with The Dinner Detective, you and your guests will not find themselves staring at cheesy costumes, there will be no recited campy dialogue and certainly no hokey song and dance. Our performers are dressed just like everyone else, leaving all of the guests to suspect who is a part of the show and who is not! All scripts are based on actual cold cases and are created in house. From the get go, the guests are seated with the performers and most likely will not realize it! Our Detectives enter the room, proceed to interrogate guests, find clues and start the investigation. This allows our guests to socialize with and interrogate each other, while deciphering real life-based clues. At the end of the night, prizes are awarded to the Top Sleuth who solves the crime!
