November Sip of Science - Flyover Country: the mobile app for Earth science with Amy Myrbo, Research Associate and Director of Outreach, Diversity and Edusation at LacCore/CSDCO, Dept of Earth Sciences, University of Minnesota
Due to the increased popularity of the Sip of Science program, we are now REQUIRING RSVPs and tickets at the door. Please click the above link to RSVP.
Are you the sort of person who wants to know all about the landscape you're flying over, driving through, or hiking across? What geologic wonders are under your feet? Were fossils discovered here? Were there volcanoes in this spot a billion years ago? What could you unravel if you had access to the databases and field trip guidebooks that Earth scientists use? Amy will talk about the popular mobile app Flyover Country, developed at the University of Minnesota and funded by the National Science Foundation. It can be used worldwide when you travel - or from your armchair, to learn about a place you've always wanted to visit.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Amy Myrbo is a Research Associate and Director of Outreach, Diversity, and Education at LacCore/CSDCO, Department of Earth Sciences, University of Minnesota. When not leading Team Flyover Country, she studies the dangers of sulfate discharge to wild rice and wetland ecosystems, and helps other scientists take core samples from lakes around the world.

Celina Kane of HAT MAKE and Gina Moorhead of House of Gina Marie are hosting a pre-holiday sale, BESPEAK, with a focus on made-to-measure goods.
We will have an intimate line up of local vendors of all different mediums featuring women’s and men’s apparel, hats, leather goods, shoes, handbags, jewelry, paper & home accessories. We are choosing to focus on “made-to-measure” for a number of reasons that we hope will be a benefit to all.
First, as artisans 'bespoke' is at the heart of growing sustainable businesses– we hope for us and our vendors it will be a way to participate in this market economically, showing off samples and taking custom orders. Secondly, it is an opportunity to market everyone’s skills and provide customization– something that differentiates us as smaller scale makers and differentiates BESPEAK from other holiday pop-ups.
BESPEAK will be held on Sunday, November 6th from 11am-4pm in the historic Pillsbury A-Mill, 315 SE Main Street, Minneapolis, MN 55414.
Light snacks will be provided by Spoonriver and there will be a variety of libations from local sponsors. Attending the event will be free to guests.

House of Gina Marie
Gras Mark
HAT MAKE
Annika Kaplan
Koonyai Studio

The Dinner Detective is America’s LARGEST, award-winning interactive comedic murder mystery dinner show! Our high-energy, modern-day whodunit is combined with a full four-course meal.
Our immensely popular murder mystery shows are set in the present day. Unlike other murder mystery dinner shows (or just dinner shows in general), with The Dinner Detective, you and your guests will not find themselves staring at cheesy costumes, there will be no recited campy dialogue and certainly no hokey song and dance. Our performers are dressed just like everyone else, leaving all of the guests to suspect who is a part of the show and who is not! All scripts are based on actual cold cases and are created in house. From the get go, the guests are seated with the performers and most likely will not realize it! Our Detectives enter the room, proceed to interrogate guests, find clues and start the investigation. This allows our guests to socialize with and interrogate each other, while deciphering real life-based clues. At the end of the night, prizes are awarded to the Top Sleuth who solves the crime!

Minneapolis Parks Foundation presents: Next Generation of Parks Lecture: Maurice Cox
Minnesota Public Radio's Brandt Williams will talk with Maurice Cox, Detroit’s new Planning Director, named one of “20 Masters of Design” in 2004 by Fast Company. They’ll address the transformative power of democratic design and citizen planning. Cox's inspiring experience includes rebuilding community in post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans and, now, Detroit, where future parks and greenspace are found at the intersection of design and social justice. Youth design apprentices from Juxtaposition Arts will open the event with a short presentation and video documenting their summer-long community engagement project exploring ideas for future Mississippi Riverfront parks and connecting them with North Minneapolis neighborhoods. Free.
