March 28, 2014, Friday - Live Music at Aster Cafe

Time: 9:00pm $8

Location: Aster Cafe, 125 Main Stree SE

Tonight: Nathan Eliot + Verskotzi + Lynn O’Brien Trio

Nathan Eliot:
Nathan Eliot will release his debut album, Universe in Me, in March 2014, with additional instrumentation by drummer Alex Young, cellist Dan Lawonn, bassist Andrew Foreman, and producer/multi-instrumentalist Andy Thompson. Achingly beautiful, his melodic whirlpools are found to be emotionally rich and intricately arranged journeys asking questions about the small and unique place in the universe that humans occupy. His clear tenor floats over each instrument he plucks or strums: warm, acoustic tones; chunky, electric wails; or bright, urgent mandola arpeggios.

Verskotzi:
Hailing from Minneapolis, MN, Verskotzi is Joey Verskotzi, Izaac Burkhart, Grady Kenevan & Ian Allison. Verskotzi released their new album, Lemon Heart, on November 2, 2013 at Icehouse. The album was produced by Izaac Burkhart at The Color Lounge in Minneapolis. Drawing from his 60′s, 70′s & indie rock influences, Joey has crafted an album that reveals his ‘roots’ musical tastes, and depicts his issues of addiction, trust, and relying on yourself to get through and out of the valleys.

Lynn O’Brien Trio:
Lynn O’Brien is a self-taught singer/songwriter and instrumentalist (piano, guitar, baritone & tenor ukulele, flute, loop pedal) and board-certified Music Therapist in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She has 3 original albums under her belt, always with a new creative project up her sleeve. Her uniquely powerful, pure voice and thoughtfully composed songs on a variety of acoustic instruments illustrate joy, sorrow, playfulness, and presence.  Lynn’s music seems to transform each audience into a peaceful family, and each stage into an intimate living room.

Forum Summary

“Preparing your business and employees to respond in moments of crisis.”

Natural or man-made disasters can have serious negative effects for businesses and employees. A disaster can often catch a business off guard. In fact, it’s estimated that 25% of companies are unable to resume operations after a major disaster. There is a tendency to think that a disaster is not going to happen “where I live”.

The reality is that storms, floods, fires and human-caused hazards like accidents and acts of violence can strike anytime and anywhere. Planning ahead for your own post-disaster recovery is a good step toward protecting your employees, your business and your community. Studies have also found that every dollar invested in preparedness results in savings of four to ten dollars in post-disaster costs.

During this presentation the American Red Cross will provide an inside look at business and employee readiness for emergencies and disasters. This engaging program will give you a brief overview of the work the Red Cross is doing make our communities safer and more resilient, and will feature information about several new applications, online tools, hands-on programs, training programs and resources that will quickly get you on the path to being ready for most emergencies. Join us to learn about tools (many of which are free of cost) that will help you and your employees with a range of needs from increasing safety to ensuring the continuity of your operations. We will help you be safer and more resilient in the face of emergencies.
