Time: See schedule via below show link

Location: Phoenix Theatre, 2605 Hennepin Avenue

Uprising Theatre Company presents These Shining Lives

by Melanie Marnich, directed by Shalee Coleman

October 6, 7, 9, 13, and 14

These Shining Lives chronicles the strength and determination of women considered expendable in their day, exploring their true story and its continued resonance. Catherine and her friends are dying, it’s true; but theirs is a story of survival in its most transcendent sense, as they refuse to allow the company that stole their health to kill their spirits—or endanger the lives of those who come after them. A historical fiction period drama delving into the lives and trial of the 1920 Radium Girls who painted radium numbers onto clock faces, contracted radium poisoning, and fought for justice despite biting criticism.

Playing October 6 - 9, 2017

MEDUSA is back October 6th-8th! MEDUSA (recently presented as a site specific production in the 2017 MN Fringe Festival) is a fiercely provocative and visually stunning outdoor production set along the bank of Boom Island Park under the beautiful Minneapolis skyline at sunset. Medusa's full story is scarcely known beyond her vilified ending as a monster and destroyer of men. Vox Medusa dance company and Infiammati FireCircus join forces to honor the powerful myth of Medusa's transformation from Athena's loving and devoted priestess to demonized gorgon. Infiammati spins fire to bring to life Medusa's emotional state and the destruction of her innocence, w...hile Vox Medusa unfolds her tale of sorrow and redemption. This poignant story is retold by passionate artists collaborating through contemporary dance, fire performance, a video projected set, and an original electronic music score accompanied by live vocalists.

*For this outdoor spectacle at sunset, audiences are welcome to bring blankets or collapsible chairs for seating if desired.

**Tickets: $15 can be purchased 30min before each show at Boom Island Park.

October 2, 2017, Monday - Bryan White at Aster Cafe

Time: Music 7-9pm

Location: Aster Cafe, 125 Main Stree SE

CMA, ACM & Grammy Award-Winning Bryan White (Country) $25

http://bryanwhite.com - https://www.facebook.com/BryanWhiteFans/

Bryan was born in Lawton/Fort Sill, (Comanche County) Oklahoma into a musical family. Growing up he listened to all kinds of music. His parents played in cover bands and thanks to his father, he learned to play drums while he was still very young. Drums came natural to him and he became so good at it that his parents frequently invited him to play with them. Since their bands played all different styles of music, White feels it gave him a great perspective and helped to make him the diverse artist that he is today. “Although country music has my heart, I still love and respect all kinds of musical expression.”

One thing White never tires of mentioning is the day he heard the music of his musical mentor, Steve Wariner. “People talk about defining moments. For me, this was definitely one of them. I heard Steve’s voice and I immediately gravitated toward his tone and phrasing. I knew right then, at the age of fourteen, what I wanted to do with my life.” Fresh out of high school, White says he packed up his guitar, drum sticks, angst, dreams, five hundred dollars that his family gave him and headed to Nashville to pursue a career in country music.

September 30, 2017, Saturday - Pillsbury A Mill Tour

Time: 10:30pm - Noon

Location: A-Mill Artist Lofts, 415 Main Street SE

Pillsbury A Mill Tour

Future dates: October 21 and 29

Discover the story of the National Historic Landmark Pillsbury A Mill, the largest flour mill in the world for many years, which recently reopened as the A-Mill Artist Lofts. A Mill City Museum guide will lead a tour of the former milling complex, including the rooftop deck and the basement waterpower facilities. Visitors will explore parts of the largest and best-preserved waterpower system in Minneapolis (with views straight down a 50-foot drop shaft); discover how the building functioned during the flour milling era and learn about the new hydroelectric plant that helps to power the complex.

The Pillsbury A Mill was the flagship mill of the Pillsbury Flour Milling Company. The A Mill was not only the largest flour mill in the world when it opened in 1881, it was one of the few architect-designed mills in Minneapolis, designed by Leroy S. Buffington. As such it was an industrial show piece and tourist attraction from the start. The Pillsbury A Mill ceased operation in 2003, and in 2015, the complex was redeveloped as affordable lofts for working artists by Dominium, a Minneapolis-based developer.

Please meet at the gray door on Third Avenue SE at Main Street (around the corner from the A-Mill Artist Loft main entrance at 315 Main Street SE). The tour includes about 1.5 miles of moderately-paced walking indoors and outdoors with some uneven surfaces. Please call ahead to make arrangements for guests with limited mobility.

This tour is presented in partnership with Dominium, A-Mill Artist Lofts.
