Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and the team from Eleven, Minneapolis’ first luxury condominium project, will conduct a ceremonial groundbreaking in front of a giant visual of Eleven on Monday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m.

Luigi Bernadi of Arcadia LLC is serving as the project sponsor and co-developer and Ryan Companies is serving as co-developer, builder and is partnering with Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RAMSA) as the architect.  

Mayor Frey, Bernadi and Brian Murray, CEO of Ryan Companies US, Inc. will participate in the ground breaking along with Paul Whalen, Partner at RAMSA and Carl Runck, Director of Real Estate Development who has spearheaded Eleven for Ryan Companies.

The 550-foot, 41-story Eleven tower will be Minneapolis’ tallest residential building. Soon to be the premier address in the Mill District, Eleven will typically have four units per floor, transitioning to two units per floor, and finally one unit per floor in the upper portion of the building. Each home includes a large private terrace which is at least 14 x 14 feet.  RAMSA, Ryan, and local firms Peterssen/Keller Architects and Martha Dayton Design and Sotheby’s International Realty have ensured the building interior is as thoughtful as its exterior.

Amenities include a large landscaped terrace that will be unlike any other in the city including a 75-foot lap pool, a private motor court, a 24/7 doorman, an expansive fitness suite, a multi-sport court, a library, a golf simulator, a children’s splash pad, retail space (ideally for a restaurant), a demonstration kitchen with dining, residential and guest parking, storage, and more. More information is found at the project website is elevenontheriver.com.

Washburn A Mill Tour 

Take an in-depth look at the historic Washburn A Mill complex and the award-winning Mill City Museum building.

A guide will take visitors into the building's many nooks and crannies, highlighting the lives of the men and women who worked there, how the building functioned during its peak flour-milling years, and the many changes to the building over time.

This is the only opportunity for a guided tour through the entire museum building and the only chance to see some of its non-public spaces.

Tour highlights include:

  • The dramatic story of the 1878 Washburn A Mill explosion, and the other dangers that mill workers faced on a daily basis
  • "The Octopus," a large machine that directed wheat into nine storage bins
  • The Humphrey Manlift, a vertical conveyor belt that carried workers from floor to floor
  • The Rail Corridor where hundreds of boxcars arrived each day to unload wheat and carry away flour
  • Millstone Plaza, originally paved with retired millstones and the location for lunchtime concerts by the Washburn-Crosby employee band in the 1920s
  • Evidence of the three major fires that damaged the building in 1878, 1928, and 1991
  • The East Engine House, which was once home to a two-story steam engine, has been remodeled into two classrooms, while preserving the original railroad car-pulling machinery

The tour includes no more than 1 mile of moderately paced walking on uneven surfaces. Please call ahead to make arrangements for guests with limited mobility.

October 6, 2019, Sunday - 38th Annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon 

The 38th Annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon weekend is Oct 4-6. 

Race day for the TC10 Mile and the Marathon is Sunday, October 6. The start line for the 10 Mile is on Portland Avenue and S 3rd Street, in between the Wells Fargo towers in downtown Minneapolis. This event will start at 7:00 a.m.  The Marathon will start on S 6th Street near Park Avenue at 8:00 a.m. 

There will an area around the start line that will close to traffic on October 6th. The area between 11th Avenue and 5th Avenue, along with the area between 7th Street and Washington Avenue. This area will also have No-Parking restrictions for Sunday October 6th.

They are expecting roughly 12,000 participants in the 10 mile race, and 7,000 participant in the Marathon.  The focal point of the pre-race gathering area is the Commons, along with a small portion of the light rail plaza near the stadium.  Amplified sound will begin at roughly 6:30 a.m. on October 6th.

A National Park River Site, Native Plants, and You! 

Looking for something fun and rewarding to do on a Saturday morning? Consider joining a group of volunteers to maintain a demonstration prairie at Mill Ruins Park. This native prairie attracts many bees, butterflies, and birds while improving the Mississippi River shoreline habitat.

The crew will meet at the St. Anthony Falls Visitor Center on the following Saturday mornings from 9am-noon:

Led by a trained National Park Service (NPS) volunteer, this crew is also sponsored by the Mississippi Park Connection and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. All tools, such as gloves, are provided.

10/5/19 update:

The Sheridan Memorial Park Improvements Grand Opening event that was scheduled for today, October 5, 2019, has been postponed due to the predicted inclement and possibly severe weather.

The new improvements, which include a playground, basketball court, picnic shelter and public artwork, are open to the public, so please enjoy them on a nicer day. The Grand Opening event will be held in spring 2020. Stay tuned for more details.

Meet the animals – Alligator to Zebra – in The Alphabet Tale By Jan Garten. Create your own rubbery animal letter to use over and over on the printing press. Fold and cut and color and collage our class animal alphabet letters into cards, books, bookmarks and even a circular zoo!

Join Ellen Ferrari for Saturday mornings of family book arts fun! Each workshop starts off with a story and game to warm up your creativity and then dives into book arts projects. Workshops accommodate a range of developmental levels so that adults and children (or) adult/child teams may choose to work together or side-by-side. Each participant receives supplies to use during the workshop, but may choose to bring one set home if working with his or her partner. Ellen will provide older children with suggestions for extending their learning.

Adult/child pair: $40 (10% discount for MCBA memberss) + $5 supply fee
