Moreechika: Season of Mirage

Choreogrpaher Ananya Chatterjea recently named "Favorite Minnesota Role Model for Women in the Arts" by the Minnessota Women's Press, and her company, Ananya Dance Theatre (ADT), will present the United States premiere of Moreechika: Season of Mirage. The work will receive its world premiere in July at the "New Waves! 2012" festival in Port of Spain, Trinidad, presented by the New Waves! Commission Project for the international Choregorpahers, Commission Program (ICCP).

The theme of Moreechika, an evening-length piece, is oil and the environmental, cultural and human costs of oil extraction around the world, particularly on women in global communities of color.

Moreechika is the third work in a four-part investigation into violence, trauma, resistance and empowerment experienced by communities of color, using the elements of mud (Kshoy!/Decay!, 2010), gold (Tushaanal: Fires of Dry Grass, 2011), oil (Moreechika: Season of Mirage, 2012) and water (Mohona: Estuaries of Desire, 2013) as themes.

Take an in-depth look at the historic Washburn A Mill complex and the award-winning Mill City Museum building on this guided tour. A museum interpreter will take visitors into the building’s many nooks and crannies, highlighting the lives of the men and women who worked there, how the building functioned during its peak flour milling years and the many changes to the building over time. Also covered will be how the mill ruin was converted to a museum and office building.

Although many parts of the A mill can be explored on a self-guided basis during a regular museum visit, this is the only opportunity for a guided tour through the entire museum building, and the only chance to see some of its non-public spaces. The tour includes admission to the museum gallery as well as the Flour Tower show.

This safari begins 30 minutes before local sunset (your tour confirmation will have an exact time). We meet at Mill Ruins Park on the west bank of the river. The Safari runs about 90 minutes on Thursday and Friday Nights.

Location:
This tour begins at Mill Ruins Park on the west bank of the Minneapolis riverfront.  We start by photographing  this interesting park,  then walk across the famous Stone Arch bridge to photograph the Minneapolis night skyline. We will learn the principles of low light settings on your digital SLR's or the various "scene" mode settings of your digital point and shoot camera.

Location:  Begins at Gold Medal Park (10th Avenue South & 2nd Street South), next to the Guthrie Theater - ends in Northeast Minneapolis

The Riverwalk Tour explores the Mill District and St. Anthony on Main in Northeast Minneapolis.  You'll enjoy the afternoon sampling a variety of food at historical landmarks, as well as visit the Mill City Museum, stroll by the Guthrie, and enjoy gorgeous views of St. Anthony Falls while crossing the Stone Arch Bridge into historical St. Anthony on Main.
 
You'll learn about the history of both these neighborhoods including a stroll along the oldest street in Minneapolis.  Taste and chat with other food-loving guests, and leave the tour with an appreciation for these distinct neighborhoods.

The 2012 Twin Cities River Rats shows are scheduled for 7pm Thursday nights through August 30, and take place at 1628 West River Road (between the Plymouth and Broadway).

The Twin Cities Rivers Rats describe their show as an aquatic Broadway musical featuring multiple water ski acts choreographed to music and built around a theme.

If you haven't already enjoyed a River Rats show, their website is loaded with fun videos to give you an idea of what to expect.  These are free events.

Time:  First Wave starts for the Minneapolis Duathlon at 7:00am

The Minneapolis Duathlon is a 3-mile run, 18-mile bike and 3-mile run from downtown Minneapolis along the Mississippi River and back.

The run course begins on 3rd Avenue South, goes across the river and back down Main Street, returns on the Stone Arch Bridge and goes north on West River Parkway on a brief "out and back" to finish up your run.

The bike course takes you out on 2nd Street, eventually to West River Parkway where you travel down to the main turnaround at Mile 10.

Looking for a way to take your sun salutations outside so you can truly salute the sun? The Downtown Minneapolis CorePower Yoga invites you to join them each Sunday for CorePower Yoga’s, “Yoga in the Park.” CorePower encourages yoga practioners to open their minds and join their breath and movements to the sound of music and nature all around us. All levels of yoga students are welcome and their hope is that you take this opportunity to not only practice yoga, but to find even deeper connections within your community!

These free classes will be held every Sunday starting June 3rd and running through August 26th.  All classes are 10:00am – 11:00am at Father Hennepin Bluffs Park.  Please call CorePower Yoga Downtown Minneapolis at 612-375-9642 with questions.
 
Items of note:
- Attendees should arrive 15-30 minutes prior to class starting for sign in purposes.
