June 21, 2015, Sunday - Yoga Camp at Marquette Plaza

Time: 10:30a

Yoga Camp, formerly known as Yoga Rocks the Park Minneapolis, will kick things off in style June 21 on Marquette Plaza.

Elizabeth Camp organized Yoga Rocks the Park Minneapolis last year with much success. So this year, she decided to branch out from the national Yoga Rocks the Park brand and “take over this community-building event completely.”

“We will still have lots of fun, outdoor yoga, live music, kids’ camp and now we will have more opportunities for Instagram challenges and camp style activities after the yoga and live music session,” Elizabeth says. “You can expect awesome teachers, a great live music experience, stunning photos and incredible community participation.”

What’s New?
Yoga Camp will feature a new component from last year’s series: a Yoga Camp Campfire Series will commence after class, highlighting topics such as “How To Take Better Photos for Instagram” and “Life Coaching.”

The national Yoga Rocks the Park brand required organizers to choose a food-driven charity, so Elizabeth worked closely last year with the local organization Open Arms.

“I loved working with Open Arms last year and would be happy to work with them again,” she said. “I happen to love animals, so I may change our charity to the Humane Society or some animal welfare beneficiary, or perhaps choose both charities and they can split the proceeds.”

Elizabeth will teach the June 21 outdoor yoga practice. The names of the other instructors will be released soon, so stay tuned. Yoga Camp will occur the third weekend of the month: June 21, July 19, August 22 and September 20.

“We are attracting yoga teachers and community builders!” Elizabeth said. “People at Yoga Camp generally seem to have experience in yoga and are ready to have a great class and a fantastic experience. Our audience loves to network, learn, and be adventurous. We attract people who are interested in making the world a happier place.”

Elizabeth added Yoga Camp is a celebration of the Twin Cities “coming together to have fun.”

Last year, the event highlighted yoga instructors of every style, teaching the masses—beginners, kids, advanced practitioners and more—with a focus on bringing people together.

2015 Minnesota Kubb Open

Location: Marquette Plaza on the Nicollet Mall

Schedule:
•9:45am – Welcome, Format Review, and Rule Review.
•10am – Round Robin
•12:15pm – Lunch Break
•1:00pm – Championship Round Robin
•1:00pm – Consolation Bracket
•4:00pm – Championship Match

Format: Teams are placed into four groups with four teams in each group. The 1st and 2nd place teams in each group advance to the Championship Round Robin. The 3rd and 4th place teams in each group advance to the Consolation Bracket.

Kubb is a Swedish lawn game possibly dating back to days of Viking conquest. More practically, you’ll learn kubb is a game played between two teams attempting to knock over the opposition’s kubbs and finally the king to win the game

Environment:
“When it comes to the Marquette plaza and Kubb, I would compare the experience to baseball at wrigley field, basketball at the garden, football on the frozen tundra. Some places just have a sense of being the perfect setting for certain activities. The Plaza is that place for Kubb in my mind. You can’t beat the the overlook of a building smiling down on you to justify that at that moment you are doing exactly what you should be doing.”
-Grant Scott. 2014 U.S. National Champion.

You may know that the world's supply of phosphorus--an essential element of agricultural fertilizers--is reaching its limit. You may also know that our communities' wastewater treatment facilities have made great strides recently in reducing phosphorus concentrations in their effluent. But did you know that the City of St. Cloud completed a pilot study to show that phosphorus fertilizer can be harvested from wastewater? This study could enhance an already successful biosolids management program by creating additional uses for recycled waste. Come learn how the program has gone, and how the City of St. Cloud is leading the way with innovative resource recovery efforts. Presenter Emma Larson is an Environmental Specialist with the City of St. Cloud.
