April 7, 2018, Saturday - Washburn A Mill Tour at the Mill City Museum

Time: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Location: Mill City Museum, 704 South 2nd Street

Washburn A Mill Tour

Take an in-depth look at the historic Washburn A Mill complex and the award-winning Mill City Museum building. A guide will take visitors into the building's many nooks and crannies, highlighting the lives of the men and women who worked there, how the building functioned during its peak flour milling years, and the many changes to the building over time. This is the only opportunity for a guided tour through the entire museum building and the only chance to see some of its nonpublic spaces.

Tour highlights include:

  • The dramatic story of the 1878 Washburn A Mill explosion, and the other dangers that mill workers faced on a daily basis
  • "The Octopus," a large machine that directed wheat into nine storage bins
  • The Humphrey Manlift, a vertical conveyor belt that carried workers from floor to floor
  • The Rail Corridor where hundreds of boxcars arrived each day to unload wheat and carry away flour
  • Millstone plaza, originally paved with retired millstones and the location for lunchtime concerts by the Washburn-Crosby employee band in the 1920s
  • Evidence of the three major fires that have damaged the building in 1878, 1928 and 1991
  • The East Engine House, once home to a two-story steam engine, has been remodeled into two classrooms, while preserving the original railroad car pulling machinery

The tour includes no more than 1 mile of moderately paced walking on uneven surfaces. Please call ahead to make arrangements for guests with limited mobility.

April 6, 2018, Friday - Carol's Night 14th Annual CFMF Celebration at Minneapolis Event Center

Time: 6 PM - 10 PM

Location: Minneapolis Events Center, 212 Second Street SE

The Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund Presents CAROL'S NIGHT 14th Annual Dinner Celebration

To Honor, Remember & Celebrate

It’s a tradition like no other, the annual Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund Benefit!

It was just 15 years ago on April 10 that Carol Fitzgerald, the wife of columnist Larry Fitzgerald, passed away after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Her two sons, Larry Jr. and Marcus were still in school, one in college and the other in high school. The Fitzgerald men teamed up and accepted the challenge to carry on the family goals and fight for what was important to Carol.

In 2004, Larry started his foundation, the Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund (CFMF). The purpose was to raise money to help fight against breast cancer, and HIV/AIDS, and support urban education.
Both Larry Jr. and Marcus went on to graduate from high school and college, Larry Jr. from the University of Phoenix and Marcus from Holy Angels and Marshall University. Larry Jr., one of the NFL’s biggest stars now in his 14th season in the league, started his own foundation the Larry Fitzgerald First Down Fund.

Combined, the two organizations have raised over $3 million dollars and distributed the funds throughout the Twin Cities, Phoenix communities and across the country to worthy organizations with nonprofit programs designed to fight breast cancer and HIV/AIDS and support urban education.

Larry Fitzgerald, now in his 40th year as one of the country’s most-respected sports journalist and fathers, is the only sports writer in history to cover his own son in a Super Bowl-XLIII. Larry Jr., a eleven-year Pro Bowler and 2017 NFL Man of the Year, also captured the prestigious AT&T Pebble Beach-Pro-Am with PGA Pro Kevin Streelman in February of 2018.

The Fitzgerald men will once again team up to lead CFMF Benefit Weekend. On Friday, April 6, actress-songbird Paris Bennett (and her band) of The Wiz and American Idol fame will headline a dinner gala at the Minneapolis Event Center from 6-10pm.

Popular comedic personality Shed-G will serve as emcee, and Vikings stars will also be on hand featuring a live silent auction with prized sports memorabilia, all to help raise money for the Fitzgerald men’s continuing mission of helping others. For tickets and table information, visitwww.cfmf.eventbrite.com or call 612-770-4575.

April 5, 2018, Thursday - Pints & Paints: Pet Painting at Sociable Cider Werks

Time: 6 PM - 9 PM

Location: Sociable Cider Werks, 1500 Fillmore Street NE

Pints & Paints: Pet Painting

Join Maddy & Sociable Cider Werks for a fun paint class & amazing cider. We will be painting our pets! Yes, you can paint your cat, fish, parrot, dog, bunny, snake, etc. Anything goes!

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Your pet photo will be turned into a paint by number where you can chose to just fill in the sections (like painting above), or add some shading/style to it. You can paint your pet with funky colors, natural colors, or a mix of both. You will start with a tracer of your paint by number photo and a totally blank canvas, so have countless options!

HOW TO SIGN UP:
1. Use the Eventbrite to pay for your ticket.
2. Send Maddy an email with "Pet Painting" in the subject line with a handful of photos of your pet. Please include that you're coming to the April 5th event. For best results: Your photos should be only your pet, no one is holding the pet, your pet isn't jumping, and your pet IS looking at the camera, or you can at least see its eyes. As always, natural light is best. Think of a school photo, you want mostly your pet's face in the photo. Please send Maddy 3+ photos of your pet, so there is plenty to work with. If you have a ton of photos of your pet, Maddy will gladly look though as many as you like to make sure you get an awesome end product. Even if you signed up you and your ten friends, please only one pet per email, so there is no confusion.
Unfortunately, only one pet per painting works best. But... you can come to more pet painting classes with Maddy, paint the backgrounds the same, and they will look beautiful next to each other!

Email: maddypaulsen@gmail.com. Maddy will confirm with you once you sign up on Eventbrite AND submit your photos via email.
_____________
No art/design/painting experience necessary. Whether you held a paint brush yesterday or thirty years ago, you are more than welcome to attend! I promise, you CAN do it & you are creative!

All supplies are included in the class. Canvas size: 12x16

Do not wear your favorite shirt of all time. This is not a super messy activity, but there is always a risk of getting a little paint on your shirt. There is limited space, so pre-registration is required. Cider is sold seperately.
