Take an in-depth look at the historic Washburn A Mill complex and the award-winning Mill City Museum building on a guided tour of the building. A museum interpreter will take visitors into the building’s many nooks and crannies, highlighting the lives of the men and women who worked there, how the building functioned during its peak flour milling years, and the many changes to the building over time. Also covered will be how the mill ruin was converted to a museum and office building.
Although many parts of the A mill can be explored on a self-guided basis during a regular museum visit, this is the only opportunity for a guided tour through the entire museum building, and the only chance to see some of its non-public spaces. The tour includes admission to the museum gallery as well as the Flour Tower show.

Conversation with Mark Allen, Founder and Director of Machine Project, LA. Mark will be speaking about the role of the nonprofit alternative art space and how to keep spaces and projects relevant to both artists and audiences.
His talk will be followed by afternoon refreshments at The Soap Factory and a chance to see the install of Erik Ullandersen's exhibition and collaborative social performance The Amazing Adventures of the Corporate Wizard in the Land of LARP.
About Mark Allen
Mark Allen is the founder and executive director of Machine Project. Under his direction, Machine has produced over 500 events, workshops and performances. Prior to opening Machine, he was involved with several alternative arts groups as a curator, board member and director, and co-founded the Los Angeles new media collective c-level. He has taught at the California Institute of the Arts and the University of California San Diego, and is currently an Associate Professor of Art at Pomona College and a Board Member at The Andy Warhol Foundation.

Machine Project is a non-profit presentation and educational space investigating art, technology, natural history, science, music, literature, food, and whatever else humans like to do. Walk the Minneapolis riverfront and learn about its dramatic past and bright future. Participants will visit the historic district at St. Anthony Falls, which was once the milling center of the world and is now a growing cultural, recreational and residential neighborhood. A guide from Mill City Museum will lead visitors onto the Stone Arch Bridge for a spectacular view of the falls, the historic buildings surrounding it and downtown Minneapolis and tell stories of the people who have worked and lived in the area and how it has changed over the years. The tour begins and ends at Mill City Museum where participants can visit the museum gallery (included in the price of the tour) and enjoy refreshments at the Mill City Museum Café.

One of the largest annual fireworks shows in the country, the Target Fireworks will light up the Minneapolis sky with a spectacular pyrotechnic display in celebration of the 72nd Aquatennial.
Pre-fireworks activities and live music will begin at 6:00pm along West River Parkway, between Portland Avenue and the 3rd Avenue Bridge. It’s a fitting end to the Minneapolis Aquatennial and a display not to be missed.

The Twin Cities’ most explosive outdoor concert series is back for an eighth season with a slate of bands curated by music writer Jim Walsh. Featuring legendary performers from the heyday of the Minneapolis sound, these concerts will riff on American music in a gorgeous riverfront setting every Thursday from July 7 through Aug. 18. Chris Yon
Exploring the world of backup dancers without their leading stars, Chris Yon presents ECHO PARK Dream Ballet Essay:Les Sylphides without Margot Fonteyn v. The Pips without Gladys Knight. Set to an original mashup soundscape of classical and R&B music, the six dancers traverse a kinetically quotable movement landscape based on variations of familiar ‘step-touch’ routines and other standard chorus vocabulary.
Kenna Cottman
Kenna Cottman (aka Sarge) is widely known for her West African and hip-hop fusion techniques. With Shared Language, Cottman explores the conflict in her own cultural identity, collaborating with Senegalese griot (storyteller/musician) Backa Niang to combine oral language traditions with a new movement vocabulary derived from Senegalese sabar dance, Guinee djembe dance and a more contemporary take on her own style.
Kaleena Miller
Inspired by her father’s journey into the depths of Alzheimer’s, Kaleena Miller’s Fleet explores the aural and visual interpretation of the disease as a percussive dance piece set to live music. Utilizing a more modern, urban sensibility on the traditional views of tap dance, Miller’s variance of sound and visual aesthetics creates a dense and dark percussive sound that leaves the audience affected, yet hopeful.
Mad King Thomas – Tara King, Theresa Madhaus, Monica Thomas
Bouncing between a multitude of potential titles including If We Just Put Sparkles On It, All Our Troubles Will Go Away and Glitter Tits and the Glitteration Band, movement trio Mad King Thomas presents a new piece for “more than 3, and probably less than 25” people about agency and power in a culture of spectacle. Known for their sense of humor and delight in irreverence, Mad King Thomas is invested in the possibilities of live performance opening up discussion, igniting revolution and subverting the status quo, as well as expanding what the definitions of dance, performance, or art might be. This new work draws its inspiration from a love of bicycles, sparkles, and women and finds its influence in the past 100 years of culture including suffragettes, Eleanor Roosevelt, Guy Dubord, Ziegfield Follies, and female movie stars.
