Time: 8:00am to 9:00am

Location: Mill City Museum, ADM Conference Room: 6th Floor, 710 South Second Street

This event is free!

Every December we celebrate the end of the year with an invitational. You send in images and stories about your favorite historic properties. This year’s theme is: Trespass.

Please send us images of a place (or two) that you had to exercise unauthorized methods to enter because, well – you’ll have to tell us that, too.

Now is the time to think about those mini-adventures, and send us a photo, the name or description of the place, and its location. Send the info to: Stephanie Atwood at atwood@hessroise.com. Please put “December BWAP” in the subject line. All submittals are due by Monday, November 26, 2012.

Parking is available in a ramp across the street or along South Second Street in metered spaces. We begin a bit at 8:00 a.m. Coffee and bakery items will be available, as will the usual great questions and commentary.

December 4, 2012, Tuesday - Washington Avenue Public Meeting at The Loft

Time:  5:00pm - 7:00pm

Location: Open Book - Target Performance Hall, 1011 Washington Ave S

Washington Avenue Public Meeting, Hosted by Hennepin County

Project overview

Hennepin County in coordination with the City of Minneapolis, is preparing for the reconstruction of Washington Avenue South (County Road 152) between Hennepin Avenue and 5th Avenue South. The project is in the early stages of the project development process and construction is anticipated in mid 2014. Public involvement has begun and will continue with the corridor concept planning.

The goals of the public involvement process include gathering various stakeholders together to discuss concept plans and opportunities to improve the corridor as a whole (Hennepin Avenue to I-35W).

  • Hennepin Avenue to 5th Avenue South will remain the limits for the proposed reconstruction project. The concept plans will be used to generate a preliminary layout on which the detailed design for the project will be based.
  • 5th Avenue South to I-35W is not identified as a reconstruction project at this time. However, the concept plans will provide guidance as future projects are identified and as funding becomes available.

Project information will be made available on the website and at public meetings.

Join 2nd Story on Sunday December 2nd, for a special tour stop in Minneapolis as we bring you stories of connections. Tickets: $15 online (http://2ndstory.com/events/2nd-story-in-mn); $20 cash only at door

About 2nd Story:

2nd Story is a Chicago-based collective of writers, actors, directors, curators, and musicians who collaborate to create and host storytelling events in Chicago and beyond. 2nd Story believes that sharing personal, real stories is instrumental in building community.

The stories range from the serious to the silly and can at once provoke and entertain. Each story is combined with expertly-performed musical accompaniment or well-placed audio accents to enhance the spoken story and the pregnant pause.

We also run classes and workshops, in order to empower individuals to be the storytellers of their own lives. Our training program is based in our core beliefs of the power of ensemble and sharing stories, and is geared both towards artists/writers/performers seeking to hone their technique and individuals with no experience at all who just love what we do and want to deepen their own creative practice.

December 1, 2012, Saturday - KnownUnKnowns Opening Reception at The Soap Factory

Time: 7:00pm - 11:00pm

Location: Soap Factory, 514 Second Street SE

The Soap Factory Presents: KnownUnKnowns

An exhibition curated by and featuring the work of Soap Factory volunteers.

The Soap Factory’s 2012 Volunteer Biennial, KnownUnKnowns, will feature a variety of exciting new artwork from new, emerging, and established artists among The Soap Factory’s volunteer force. During an era in which the future seems increasingly indeterminate, KnownUnKnowns presents work that plays with the balance between certainty and speculation, while exploring acquired knowledge. Following more than a decade of dismal political theater and end-of-the-world prophecies, those that claim with certainty that the end will finally come in December 2012 can only be met with a vague sense of absurdity.

Taking cues from social, political, and personal experiences, KnownUnKnowns examines the search for truth and the fragility of that which we believe to be real. This exhibition of local artists will showcase a wide range of media including painting, photography, installation, video, and interactive works. From a memory-shredding machine to a simulated experience of life on another planet, the featured artists take a variety of approaches to push boundaries and decipher the nature of knowledge.

Thirty-six of The Soap Factory’s volunteers are presenting their own work in this collaborative biennial show. Created and planned by artists who know The Soap Factory best, KnownUnKnowns showcases both the talents of The Soap Factory’s volunteer force and the creative potential of its historic industrial space.

Exhibition Runs: Dec 1 - Dec 21, 2012

2nd Story storytellers answer these questions: "Have you ever had a moment of complete awakening? Maybe someone surprised you with a secret side of themselves, or you experienced a moment of profound clarity?" These incidents can be scary and beautiful, and they often produce a level of insight that would’ve been impossible to attain otherwise. From a young man searching for Bigfoot while learning to drive to a woman stunned by the actions of her new crush, this winter 2nd Story comes to Minneapolis, and all will be revealed.
