December 2, 2014,Tuesday - Downtown Service Area Master Plan and Downtown Public Realm Framework Steering Committee Meeting at MPRB

Time: 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Location: Minneapolis Park and Rec Board (Board Room), 2117 West River Road

Public Invited to First Steering Committee Meeting for Downtown Service Area Master Plan and Downtown Public Realm Framework

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and the City of Minneapolis are embarking on concurrent planning processes to develop a Downtown Service Area Master Plan and a Downtown Public Realm Framework. These plans will form a vision for parks, open space and the public realm in downtown Minneapolis. You are invited to an initial meeting of a Steering Committee (Community Advisory Committee) as it begins the effort of guiding the creation of these plans. Members of the public are welcome to attend this and all Steering Committee meetings.

The Downtown Service Area Master Plan will guide the MPRB’s long-term capital improvements, management, and operations of public parks in downtown, including envisioning and identifying new park and recreation opportunities. City of Minneapolis Planning staff is creating the Downtown Public Realm Framework, a guiding policy document for enhancing the pedestrian experience in downtown Minneapolis. The MPRB’s plan will focus on the downtown park system’s existing parks and trails, while the City’s will focus on downtown’s network of streetscapes, urban plazas and other publicly-accessible spaces. Together, these documents will envision the park, open space and public realm features that will support a thriving downtown and a vibrant urban experience.

To see a schedule of Steering Committee meetings, sign up for email updates, follow the blog, and learn more about the project, please visit the project page and select “Downtown Service Area Master Plan.”

If it’s possible for a band to own a town, then Molly Maher and her band of Disbelievers are as close as it gets to holding the keys. Molly is considered by some the reigning queen of the Twin Cities scene — she’s an incomparable singer and songwriter with compelling depth and soul, and has shared the stage with some of the best acts in the country, among them Los Lobos and John Hiatt.

Leo Kottke - THANKSGIVING SHOW TRADITION

Acoustic guitar virtuoso Leo Kottke is widely known for his innovative fingerpicking style, which draws on influences from blues, jazz and folk music. A two-time Grammy nominee, Kottke has recorded over 40 albums in a career that's spanned more than 40 years. He recorded his debut album “12 String Blues” in 1969. His follow-up caught the attention of legendary guitarist John Fahey and, with the help of Fahey’s manager, Kottke signed a recording deal with Capitol Records. His albums for Capitol drew critical praise and he breached the Top 50 in 1975 with “Chewing Pine.” In concert, Kottke mixes his dry sense of humor with jaw-dropping instrumental selections from his storied career, playing solo on his signature 6- and 12-string guitars.

Fast and technically proficient, the emotion and soul communicated through his acoustic guitar separates him from other players. Leo Kottke is a musician’s musician, enjoyed by those who love his unique guitar playing style and sound and appreciated by musicians and guitarists who understand his incredible guitar talent. He's a virtuoso, a legendary master of the five-finger picking technique and 12-string slide instrumentals. Opening act: Nellie McKay.
