July 25, 2015, Saturday - The MOST Amazing Race (starts and ends at the Stone Arch Bridge)

The MOST Amazing Race is part of the Minneapolis Aquatennial celebration. This year it’s Saturday, July 25. The qualifying event takes place the morning of the race at the University of Minnesota. Team check-in is from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. with the qualifying event starting at 10:00 a.m. The top 20 teams that qualify, along with up to 10 top fundraising teams, will continue on to The MOST Amazing Race that afternoon.

The starting line and the finish line for The MOST Amazing Race that afternoon are both at the end of the Stone Arch Bridge, located at West River Parkway and Portland Ave. in downtown Minneapolis. Team check-in is from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m with the race starting at 2:00 p.m. The race usually takes four to six hours to complete. After the race, we throw a big party for the racers and their families that culminates with the huge Aquatennial Target fireworks.

The Salvation Army’s 10th anniversary MOST Amazing Race is an Aquatennial event that takes teams all over Minneapolis on the way to the $5,000 finish line. The race has raised over $550,000 the past nine years for housing and food programs in the Twin Cities. 30 teams participate. 10 get in by being top fundraisers, 20 more arrive from the qualifier earlier in the day at the U of M.

The main race starts at the Stone Arch Bridge and typically takes four to six hours to complete. Like the race on TV, teams of two work through a series of physical and mental challenges. This year’s challenges are top secret, but past challenges have included jumping from the 10 meter platform at the U of M Aquatic Center, throwing pitches at Target Field and downing a “wasabi bomb” at a local sushi restaurant. Teams must complete a challenge to get a clue to the next one, and they can only use MetroTransit or their feet to get them to that location.

Teams finish at the Stone Arch Bridge just in time for dinner and the Aquatennial fireworks. Besides the $5,000 grand prize, other prizes are awarded to top fundraisers and finishers.

Photos/video will be posted on our social platforms and on AmazingRaceMN.org
