February 17, 2016, Wednesday - Book Signing with Adventurist Authors Beth Dooley & Brian Peterson

Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Location: Dunn Bros, 111 3rd Avene S, #220

Book Signing with Adventurist Authors Beth Dooley & Brian Peterson

Beth and Brian have been leading WI trips and championing the WI mission for years, and we're excited that each has recently released a book that highlights their incredible talents.

We'd love for you to join us to chat with the authors, buy a book and get it signed, learn about their adventures near and far, and enjoy light refreshments with Wilderness Inquiry supporters and friends.

Beth Dooley, In Winter's Kitchen:
"In Winter’s Kitchen reveals how a food movement with deep roots in the Heartland—our first food co-ops, most productive farmland, and the most storied agricultural scientists hail from the region—isn't only thriving, it's presenting solutions that could feed a country, rather than just a smatte...ring of neighborhoods and restaurants. Using the story of one thanksgiving meal, Dooley discovers that a locally-sourced winter diet is more than a possibility: it can be delicious."

Brian Peterson, Minnesota State of Wonders:
"Photographer Brian Peterson was born in Duluth, Minnesota, and has enjoyed a career that allows him to pursue stories he cares most about in his home state and around the world. He’s best known for his work since 1987 for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, but his photographs have also been seen in National Geographic and Sports Illustrated magazines, the New York Times and on ESPN."

February 17, 2016, Wednesday - Hennepin Avenue Public Meeting #1 at Central Library

Time: 4:00pm - 6:30pm

Location: Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall

Hennepin Avenue Public Meeting #1

Hosted by the City of Minneapolis

The City is planning to reconstruct Hennepin Avenue downtown from Washington Avenue and 12th Street in 2020. This is the first community meeting to help shape the vision for what the new Hennepin will look like. Staff will present at 4pm and 5pm and be available for feedback.

We hope you will attend! Hennepin is a critical street with lots of possibilities. But those possibilities will only come through if people come and say the want to see improvements.

Protected bike lanes, improved walking safety, more space for community gatherings, dedicated bus lanes, and less auto focus are all things that can make Hennepin more welcoming, comfortable, and lovable. Speak up for them at the meeting and with your Council Member.

Here are more on some initial ideas: http://www.mplsbike.org/make_hennepin_lovable

Location: The Lab Theater, 700 1st North Street

Bitter Boy Productions (Steven Meerdink) and Minneapolis Musical Theatre present Silence! The Musical

SILENCE! The Musical is a hilarious ‘unauthorized’ parody based on the Academy Award winning film, The Silence of the Lambs.  Rookie FBI agent Clarice Starling (Emily Jabas) matches wits with the brilliant but insane cannibal, Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Tim Kuehl) in order to catch the serial killer known as Buffalo Bill (Ryan London Levin). Clarice faces her own demons while racing the clock to unlock Lecter’s clues before another innocent girl is killed and skinned.  This laugh-out-loud naughty satire features a singing chorus of floppy eared lambs narrating the action as Buffalo Bill gleefully dances a hoedown while kidnapping hapless Catherine Martin (Amanda Weis). Even Dr. Lecter, scary as ever, sings about the life he’d like to lead someday outside the prison walls.

Fueled by a rabid cult following since the songs debuted online in 2002, SILENCE! was expanded into a live stage show and shattered every box-office record at the 2005 FringeNYC Festival. Winner of the FringeNYC Festival’s Best Musical Award, SILENCE! The Musical combines whip-smart dialogue and shocking songs to make a musical parody of The Silence of the Lambs that’s sure to be popular with seasoned fans of the movie and FBI rookies alike.

February 12, 2016, Friday - June opens at Southern Theater (runs thru Feb 26)

Time:  See ticket link for schedule

Location: Southern Theater, 1420 Washington Avenue South

June Presented by Savage Umbrella

February 12 - 26

Set in pre-Stonewall America, June explores the roles we play and the secrets we hide. As McCarthyism abounds and the burgeoning queer social scene picks up steam, an ensemble of women grappling with fear, love, and identity explore what it means to be seen—by themselves, by each other, and by a society that may not be ready to see them as they are.

Audiences described the 2014 work-in-progress as mysterious, human, incisive, daring, magnetic, and “a crisp delight / a tangy surprise”. Savage Umbrella uses music, movement, and text to dig even further into themes of privilege, gender roles, and sexual identity turning the traditional mid-century American narrative on it's head.
