Time: 1:00pm - 3:00pm

Location: Minnesota Center for Book Arts, 1011 Washington Avenue South

Let's Go to the Beach! with Ellen Ferrari

For families with children ages 2-10

Create a GIANT tunnel book that unfolds across the floor, and turn it into an (almost) life-sized summer vacation getaway – beach, lake or poolside. And don’t forget the small tunnel book for your doll or action figure. Cool off with ice pops. Join Ellen Ferrari for family book arts fun! Each workshop starts off with a story and game to warm up your creativity and then dives into a book arts project. Workshops accommodate a range of developmental levels so that adults and children (or) adult/child teams may choose to work together or side-by-side. Each participant receives supplies to use during the workshop, but may choose to bring one set home if working with his or her partner. Ellen will provide older children with suggestions for extending their learning.

Adult/child pair: $38 ($35 members); additional participant (adult or child): $19 ($17.50 members). Prices include supply fee.

July 27, 2016, Wednesday - SuperALLEYfragilistic: A Tour of Public Alleys with Preserve Minneapolis

Time: 6:00pm

Location: Meet and start at Corner Coffee, 512 N 3rd Street

Preserve Minneapolis and Spring in Our Steps present superALLEYfragilistic: a tour of public alleys in North Loop & Downtown West.

Join Preserve Minneapolis and the kickoff of Cincinnati-based Spring in Our Steps (SiOS) in Minneapolis with a free walking tour of public alley spaces!

We'll meet & start at Corner Coffee, where SiOS co-founder Christian Huelsman will lead us eastward over the Cedar Lake Trail and through a labyrinth of public alleys toward Hennepin Avenue. Select stops on the route will focus on alleys' relationships with historic structures in the Warehouse District, remaining or partially hidden historic infrastructure, and the value that improvements to our alleys can bring to our urban experience.

Spring in Our Steps is a Cincinnati-based 501(c)3 organization, committed to bringing a brighter future to the city’s pedestrian-scaled public spaces–such as public alleys, foot bridges, and hillside stairways–through cleanup, coordinated activities, and comprehensive planning.

We'll regroup at our post-tour meetup location (TBA) for tasty beverages & conversation about alley preservation!
