August 11, 2018, Saturday - PopUp Dinner Twin Cities 2018

Time: 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Location: Minneapolis Sculpture Garden

PopUp Dinner Twin Cities 2018

What is the PopUp Dinner Twin Cities?
It is a beautiful picnic, a vibrant gathering and a dance party under the stars.
A celebration of LIFE, LOVE and COMMUNITY.
It is what Minneapolis and each guest makes it.
No other event brings together hundreds of people to spontaneously celebrate creativity quite like this!

The Location! The PopUp Dinner has found its Minneapolis home! For four years we have toured Minneapolis as the event took place at Boom Island, Thomas Lowery Park, Theodore Wirth Park, and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden at the Walker Art Center. But moving on now doesn't seem right. It just doesn't get more Minneapolis iconic than gathering under the Cherry and Spoon. So we hope that you will all join us again this year for dining and dancing under the skyline and the stars in the Minneapois Sculpture Garden.
Dress Code! All white attire is the theme that pulls this summer evening gathering together but creativity is the only thing that's mandatory. We love to see hats, belts, accessories and more in the color of your choice. Be playful, be beautiful, be YOU!
Tabletop Décor! Your lovely tablescapes set the tone for a festive evening. This is outdoor dining in style. But your tables can be as simple or elaborate as you want. After setting up, guests wander the venue, wine glass in hand, to see what others have created and meet new people!
The Food! We believe sharing a meal is an expression of love. Everyone becomes a foodie for the night and goes all out in creating, preparing and packing their delicious menu to be shared amongst thousands of new friends.
Entertainment! Music is the soul of any party and PopUp Twin Cities is no different. We love to see you all move. So the DJ will be sure the music will get people out of their chairs.

August 11, 2018, Saturday - Atelophobia Opening Reception at Gamut Gallery

Time: 7pm-11pm, $5 or free with Gallery Membership

Location: Gamut Gallery, 717 S 10th Street

Atelophobia

Atelophobia is the original 2015 group show title of four abstract artists from the Twin Cities area. Artist BDD Downs curated the artists for this initial exhibition as a way to showcase his own body of abstract artwork. Downs discovered that when he broadens his focus beyond his personal artistic output to include the work of others, the process of creating art is strengthened by the dialogue within the collective. Through this practice, the group is able to create a more purely abstract art entity, rather than simply responding to a selected premise of an “abstract” art show.

The name Atelophobia was selected by one of the founding collective members Jesse Matthew Petersen. Atelophobia is a psychological condition marked by a phobia of imperfection, or the fear of not being good enough. This anxiety for abstract artists stems from trying to achieve artistic perfection in a stylistic form which should by definition have no boundaries or rules.

The first exhibition in 2015 at St. Cloud’s Gallery Vault included Tara Costello, Nashana Reding-Tuomi, Jesse Matthew Petersen and BDD Downs. The second installment took place the next year in Oneonta, NY and included the addition of Lisa Pemrick. The show included a mixture of collaborative and solo work. This next iteration at Gamut Gallery will include new work from all artists of the group along with newcomer Christopher E. Harrison. The artists of Atelophobia are not afraid to be absorbed by the abstract. Each artist’s works, while abstracted in form, maintain a different and distinct style unique to the spirit and intention of the individual.

Opening night DJ Neckbrace aka Jeff Mooridian Jr.

Exhibition Finale: Thursday September 6, 7-10pm, Comedy Night curated by Fletcher Wolfe, $5 or free with Gallery Membership

Location: Target Center

Action Day 2018

On Thursday, August 9, Greater Twin Cities United Way is teaming up with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx at Target Center to host Action Day 2018, an all-ages, family-friendly volunteer event to help Twin Cities kids go back to class set up for success!

Register now to volunteer to have an immediate impact as you help fill 25,000 backpacks with school supplies during an unforgettable day with all seven of Minnesota’s pro sports teams. Our goal is to bring together 4,000 volunteers, doubling our impact over last year.

In addition to volunteering, Action Day will be action-packed, featuring a Prize Playbook, games, prizes, photo booths and a mini- CrayolaExperience.

Shed G Minnesota will be hosting again this year!

To minimize the volunteer lines, please sign up for one of two timeframes:

3:00 – 5:30 p.m. - 1st Half
5:30 – 8:00 p.m. - 2nd Half
You’re welcome to enjoy all the activities Action Day has to offer for as long as you’d like, however, we ask you complete the volunteer project (which takes approximately 45 minutes) during the timeframe for which you sign up.

All backpack assembly volunteers must be ages 8 and up. Children under the age of 8 can still complete a special volunteer project at the Crayola Experience Mall of America.

Remember, you can also make a difference by buying a backpack for a child in need! Click the Register button to make your donation. $28 buys a backpack for a student in need.

Your Action Matters.

Together, we help our whole community by helping all kids go back to school prepared to learn.

Thanks to our Action Day Advocates: Ameripride, Andersen Corporation, Bio Techne, EY, Horton Holding, Inc., RBC Wealth Management.
