Bicycling Counts Interactive Art Project

The first installation will be set up on Saturday, June 2nd, at 9:00am on the West River Parkway bike path across from the Mill City Museum.

If you haven’t heard Minneapolis was just voted the best city for biking by Walk Score! To demonstrate the positive impacts all this biking has on our state, Center for Energy and Environment is premiering a traveling public art project during Twin Cities Bike Walk Week called Bicycling Counts.

The project is a large interactive  artistic projection that translate the cumulative impact of individual financial savings, gasoline saved and environmental benefits to society through improved air quality and reduced healthcare dollars.  Bicycling Counts is celebrating the collective impact of Minnesota bikers! This is how the project works:

Every day between June 2 and 9 a bike counter will be installed on a different popular bike path around Minneapolis. It will count all of the bikes that pass by it all day.

To find the locations check out Facebook and Twitter for clues! Then go take a ride with your family and friends to the location to get “counted”! Share your experience with the project on twitter with #bicyclingcounts.

Each evening from 9-10 p.m., CEE will set up an artistic projection on site next to the counter that will display a real-time count of each person.

Participants that pass by from 9-10 each evening will get an “I counted” sticker and feel really great about the positive impact they made!
