Watch a film screening and discuss the screen adaption of one of Walter Mosley’s acclaimed novels. Discussion will be led by storyteller Nothando Zulu.  Free copies of "Devil in a Blue Dress" will be available for pick up at the library one month prior while supplies last. Fee: $14 adults, $12 seniors and college students, $10 children ages 6-17 and MHS members. Tour includes museum admission.

Take an in-depth look at the historic Washburn A Mill complex and the award-winning Mill City Museum building on this guided tour. A museum interpreter will take visitors into the building’s many nooks and crannies, highlighting the lives of the men and women who worked there, how the building functioned during its peak flour milling years and the many changes to the building over time. Also covered will be how the mill ruin was converted to a museum and office building.

Although many parts of the A mill can be explored on a self-guided basis during a regular museum visit, this is the only opportunity for a guided tour through the entire museum building, and the only chance to see some of its non-public spaces. The tour includes admission to the museum gallery as well as the Flour Tower show.

This is the third public meeting on the development of the new historic district design guidelines.  In this meeting the second draft of the design guidelines will be reviewed and discussed.

Christopher Howell is the author of ten collections of poems, most recently DREAMLESS AND POSSIBLE: POEMS NEW AND SELECTED (2010). He teaches at Eastern Washington University and lives in Spokane.

Benjamin Busch is a decorated U.S. Marine officer who served two combat tours in Iraq, an award-winning photographer and short film director, the son of celebrated novelist Frederick Busch, and an acclaimed actor from the HBO series The Wire. He has written for Harper’s, been twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize and has been a guest commentator on NPR’s All Things Considered. His new memoir, Dust to Dust, takes the reader on a journey of his life exploring life and death, war and peace, childhood and revelations of adulthood.

Throughout the winter the Metrodome hosts thousands of inline skaters who come to relax, exercise, train, socialize, or just watch others turn endless effortless laps on the half-mile smooth concrete loop. Parking is free in the Metrodome parking lot adjacent to the entrance at Gate D.

Skates – Rollerbob sells wheels, bearings, skates and provides tune-ups

Join museum staff in the Baking Lab for a demonstration and discussion of the 1966 Pillsbury Bake-off 2nd place winning recipe. Learn about the Tunnel of Fudge Cake, its connection to local company Nordic Ware, makers of the Bundt Pan, and the fascination this recipe holds for today's bakers. Visitors can sample the cake, get baking tips and take home a copy of the recipe.

Celebrate the art of food in this great combo class with Minnesota Center for Book Arts and The Loft Literary Center! Begin the day by exploring the world of printmaking and bookbinding at MCBA as you create a handmade screw-post journal to keep track of recipes, food memories and future food projects. After lunch, work with The Loft to fill your books with fabulous food stories -- fiction, nonfiction essays, memories, and recipes! Learn the basic craft techniques of fiction and nonfiction while writing about your favorite dishes, memorable meals, imaginary restaurants, fictitious food reality shows, and more. Fun and creative writing exercises will encourage you to think about all of the ways that food is involved in our lives -- both real and imagined.
