June 7, 2017, Wednesday - Public Hearing on Draft Minneapolis Park Police Body Worn Camera Policy

Time: 6:30pm

Location: MPRB Headquarters Board Room, 2117 West River Road

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is holding a public hearing on the draft Minneapolis Park Police Body Worn Camera Policy on June 7 at 6:30pm.

The Park Police Department seeks to develop a body-worn camera (BWC) policy and contract with a vendor for hardware, data storage, and data management services. All sworn/licensed officers, assigned to patrol duties, are proposed to have body-worn cameras upon project completion. BWC program goals include: increased Park Police officer accountability, better documentation and evidence, and a reduction in conduct complaints and applications of force.

During the hearing, interested members of the public have a chance to comment on the policy in directly to the Board of Commissioners.

Review and Comment - Public comments will be accepted until June 20. The policy is available online on the Minneapolis Park Police web page.

Community members may  comment by filling out a brief online survey.

Women's Golf Day is a one day, four hour event celebrating girls and women playing golf and learning skills that last a lifetime. Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is the only entity in the region hosting outdoor Women's Golf Day events, with FREE Women's Golf Day clinics offered at golf courses throughout the city.

4:00pm-8:00pm, participants have the option of:
2 hours of lessons – One hour on the driving range and One hour chipping and putting

2 hours of play - A 9 hole scramble or play their own ball as long as the 9 holes can be completed in two hours

Railroad History Walking Tour

Beginning with the arrival of Minnesota's first rail line in 1862, Minneapolis boomed in population and flour milling, lumber production and warehousing took off. Take a guided tour of railroad landmarks, including the Stone Arch Bridge, Milwaukee Road Depot and the Minneapolis Eastern Railway engine house and trestle. Along the way, find clues to the vanishing railroad landscape and learn about the future of Twin Cities rail.

The tour includes about 1.5 miles of moderately paced walking on uneven surfaces. Please call ahead to make arrangements for guests with limited mobility.

June 4, 2017, Sunday - Downtown Run Around with Mile in My Shoes

Join us for the inaugural Downtown Run Around With Mile in My Shoes

Mile in My Shoes is a nonprofit organization dedicated to "running together to change perceptions and to change lives."  Mile in My Shoes (MiMS) partners with homeless shelters and transitional housing facilities and implements running programs for residents who join with volunteer run mentors in completing 12- 16 week training sessions.  Along the way, resident members & run mentors not only find common ground, but begin to learn from and reach out to one another for support. As they transform themselves, they transform one another.

The Downtown Run Around is presented by Mile in My Shoes volunteers and resident participants.  The inaugural event will feature a 5k, Kid's Half Mile, and Mile race.  The main event is an out and back 5k fun run that will be run on the paths going from Father Hennepin Park, across the Stone Arch Bridge, and south along W. River Parkway to the Bohemian Flats, turning around and returning to Father Hennepin Park.  The Half Mile and Mile are on the Stone Arch Bridge.

100% of the proceeds of this event will benefit Mile in My Shoes, a 501 (c) (3) organization.

Participants in the Half Mile and the Mile will receive finisher medals.  Parents may participate with youth in the Half Mile at no additional cost.  All participants in the Mile must register and pay the $5 entry fee.

Participants in the Downtown Run Around 5K will each receive finisher shirts.
