August 1, 2017, Tuesday - National Night Out at Gold Medal Park

Time: 5pm - 7:30pm

Location: Gold Medal Park

National Night Out is an annual event that takes place across American, meant to get neighbors together for a night of camaraderie and community.

Editor's Note - In previous years, a select team of Mill District residents organized what grew to be huge a gathering on the Chicago Mall. However, with the continual addition of new condos and apartments, one ginormous celebration is no longer feasible. The planning committee has disbanded, and smaller gatherings are encouraged.

This year, we are very grateful to Luke Kleckner of Re/Max, Waterstone Mortgage and The Legacy for sponsoring a more laid back event in Gold Medal Park. Meet the people of our Gold Medal Park neighborhood while enjoying root beer floats, snacks and other refreshments, plus caricatures for the kids!

NT Live at the Film Society of Minneapolis/St. Paul Salomé

The story has been told before, but never like this.

An occupied desert nation. A radical from the wilderness on hunger strike. A girl whose mysterious dance will change the course of the world. This charged retelling turns the infamous biblical tale on its head, placing the girl we call Salomé at the centre of a revolution.

Internationally acclaimed theatre director Yael Farber (Les Blancs) draws on multiple accounts to create her urgent, hypnotic production on the stage of the National Theatre.

Also playing: Wed, Aug 2 1:00p and Sat, Aug 5 1:00p

By way of fire ritual and burning the stories that no longer serve us.

By way of 'High Vibe Nutrition' (of living plants and fruits still alive with the power of the sun), fresh juice and a raw vegan breaking of the day fast, we allow the purity of our best selves to shine through.

Description
Many elaborate plans for the urban environment of Minneapolis have been dreamt up over the last century: religious temples, grand boulevards, retail palaces. Many never came to fruition, but at least a few were partially constructed before the money ran out or outside forces intervened. We'll examine the remnants of some of these projects as they exist today, many of them hiding in plain sight. We'll start at the Ivy Tower...once intended to be a Christian Science temple; now part of the Hotel Ivy.
This tour will be led by artist and writer Andy Sturdevant, author of two nonfiction books about Minneapolis. This tour lasts two hours and will walk about 2.5 miles.
