The Mill Yard at Stonebridge Lofts

The Mill City. Residents celebrate our area’s industrial heritage of the mighty Mississippi River and the mills. Today, what we see are the most recognizable Minneapolis landmarks. However, this is only part of the story. Rail lines were key to Minneapolis’ growth, and were particularly integral to the Mill District, bringing in wheat and timber and shipping out flour and lumber. We also honor the history of the mills, the reason for the rail yard’s existence.  The Mill Yard aims to be both a gathering place for art and artists and a conduit by which art can be shared with and disseminated into the wider community. Email questions of request for more info to TheMillYard.Stonebridge@gmail.com. Follow on Twitter

The Mill Yard at Stonebridge Lofts thanks Luke Kleckner, Condo Development and Sales, for his generous sponsorship.

GALLERY AND ARTIST DETAILS:

Teo Nguyen
Teo Nguyen is a second-generation artist. His father was a glass painter who experimented in several artistic mediums, and his mother is a poet. A native of Vietnam, Nguyen moved to the United States when he was sixteen and currently lives in Minneapolis. Nguyen studied art and design at De Anza College, San Francisco; Fresno State University, California; and École des Beaux-Arts, Paris. Nguyen describes his serene landscapes as “an interpretation of what I feel and see: moments in which we are alone even as we are connected to each other. I hope that my work will create for the viewer that moment — when ordinary things become remarkable and beautiful.” Of Nguyen’s abstract works, he writes: “I paint to connect to specific moments in my life. As I let go of self-consciousness — this is when I am fully immersed in my work and I am able to paint in the moment.” Teo’s work is currently exhibiting at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. In addition, he has been included in exhibitions at: Plains Art Museum, Fargo, ND; Minnesota History Center, St. Paul; Minnesota Museum of American Art, St. Paul; Burnet Fine Art & Advisory, Wayzata; Weisman Art Museum, Minneapolis; and numerous other venues within the Twin Cities.

Ann Ledy
Ann Ledy recently returned to New York where she had lived for thirty years. She currently splits her time between her studio in Millbrook, NY and New York City. Ledy has exhibited her artwork in Germany, South Korea, New York, and Minnesota, where she exhibits at Circa Gallery. Her works on paper are collected by museums across the country including the Walker, MoMA, Fogg, National Gallery, Weatherspoon, & Yale University Art Museum, to name a few. The ghost images that hover beneath the surface of Ledy’s works on paper create an illusionary space that is both real and imagined. The drawn elements are juxtaposed against a grid for orientation while the imagery musically dances across the surface. Ledy’s wall pieces and sculptures physically move beyond their three-dimensional surface. They play with light and shadow as a means of projecting and creating an illusionary space. Like the works on paper, the viewer is invited to engage and reinterpret what is given. Ledy’s works on paper and sculpture are a visual dance captured between layers of notations and shapes created by light and shadow.

He apprenticed with James Vandergriff of Zarah, Kansas in 1967, and Lou and Al Wynne of Black Forest, Colorado in 1968. He currently works in Clearwater, Minnesota.
