September 6, 2017, Wednesday - "Art, Wayfinding, and the Creation of Place" with Artist Owen Brown at Mill City Quarter
Time: 5:30pm to 7:30pm, artist talk at 6:00pm
Location: Mill City Quarter (MCQ), 322 S 2nd Street
"Art, Wayfinding, and the Creation of Place"
During this event, artist Owen Brown will discuss paintings he created for MCQ, and the understanding and conscious investment of "place" in "space," that is, how can we seek to create more human environments.
We have the choice to make our places:
Intimate vs. Impersonal
Informal vs. Formal
Private vs. Public
Attentive vs. Dismissive/Indifferent
...which correspondingly affect people by making them feel:
Safe vs. Imperilled
Certain vs. Confused
Encouraged vs. Discouraged
Found vs. Lost!
Per Owen, "Of course, this has been considered by thousands of architectural theorists and psychologists (to say nothing of interior designers), but it's always worth thinking about these issues. We "humanize" the spaces in which we move and live whether or not we consider such, from the mere fact of being human."
