September 25, 2015, Friday - Mississippi River Forum - "Parks and Recreation: Equal Access for All?"

Time: 8:00am – 9:30am

Location: McKnight Foundation, 710 Second Street South, Suite 400

You are invited to join the National Park Service for the Mississippi River Forum--your opportunity to learn about issues impacting the Mississippi River and to make sure other decision makers understand your perspective. Demographic shifts in Minnesota, combined with existing disparities among people of color, pose a critically important challenge to natural resource professionals.

This Forum will explore racial equity, particularly as it pertains to nature-based recreation and access to our shared places and resources. Dr. Raintry Salk will share key findings and implications of her research on park use among select communities of color throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan region. Don’t miss this important discussion as we all work to understand how to authentically serve the needs of a changing public. Raintry Salk is a Research Analyst with the Metropolitan Council, whose work has primarily focused on equity and parks. Light breakfast provided.

Free. RSVP to lark_weller@nps.gov. The Mississippi River Forum is made possible by the generous support of the park's charitable partner, the Mississippi River Fund, and the McKnight Foundation.
