September 13, 2012, Thursday - Five Years: The Minnesota Book Artist Award Exhibit
Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Location: Central Library, Cargill Gallery, 300 Nicollet Mall
The Minnesota Book Artist Award is a part of the greater Minnesota Book Awards coordinated by the friends of the Saint Paul Public Library and co-sponsored by Minnesota Center for Book Arts. The honor recognizes a Minnesota book artist or long-standing collaborative group for artistic excellence and significant contributions to Minnesota’s book arts community. The book arts are dynamic and noteworthy within the larger landscape of contemporary art.
At Minnesota Center for Book Arts, the definition of “book” is broad and includes a variety of methods and means for expressing narrative over time. Though often requiring traditional bookbinding, printing or paper-making to come to fruition, contemporary artists’ books may include these practices and others in surprising and innovative ways.
This exhibition celebrates the fifth anniversary of the award and highlights the extraordinary and diverse work of its winners: Jody Williams (2008), Paulette Myers-Rich (2009), Wilber H. “Chip” Schilling (2010), Regula Russelle (2011), and Cave Paper’s Bridget O’Malley and Amanda Degener (2012).
Exhibit runs September 7 through October 15.
Co-sponsored by: Minnesota Center for Book Arts, Hennepin County Library, The Friends of the St. Paul Public Library and Friends of the Hennepin County Library.
