November 30, 2017, Thursday - BRKFST Dance Company presents: Seconds at The Southern Theater (thru Dec 3)

Times: see below show link

Location:  The Southern Theater, 1420 Washington Avenue S

BRKFST Dance Company presents: Seconds

In Breakin', the term "biting" describes one person taking another's stylistically unique move and incorporating it into their own arsenal of movement as if they created it. In many ways this artful theft, more than winning, is the high stakes in a breakin’ battle. Seconds explores how individuality and innovation are both commodified and censored in consumer culture. Dancers grapple with external and internal governing forces that compel conformity, rendering bodies disposable and replaced. Through a blend of Breaking, martial-art and contemporary dance vernaculars, BRKFST company members tease out the multiple metaphors embedded in Seconds, interacting with timing, repetition and circumstance, while striving to discover and empower their covetable identities. Sound design is in collaboration with Twin Cities sound artists Katrah-Quey and Breakaway.
