November 3, 2018, Saturday - Mississippi River Care @ Father Hennepin Bluffs Park

Join your neighbors and people working nearby as we care for our Mississippi River together. Take a healthy break helping clean up our Mississippi riverfront; learning about the future of the Mississippi and how you can make a difference; and having fun with other people in Marcy-Holmes neighborhood. Good for your community, good for your environment, and good for you!

We will clean up the shoreline, slopes and park on the east bank of the Mississippi River, where Father Hennepin named St. Anthony Falls. Your guide:

• Cordelia Pierson, Mississippi River Parkway Commissioner, Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Association board member, who will share exciting plans for the area, and stories about the great impact of caring for our bluff park.

After helping out, we will visit an eagle nest – right in the heart of the city – and you can visit Water Power Park and a St. Anthony Main café.

Schedule:

• 9:00 - 9:20 - Sign-in, Introductions and Orientation
• 9:20-11:45 - Service activities, interpretation, and refreshment – We will rotate between learning about the area, removing invasive plants, and cleaning up the natural area and Mississippi shoreline
• 11:45-12:00 - Closing and thank you, followed by five-minute walk to view riverside eagle nest

Preparations:
Gloves and tools are provided by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. Please bring a water bottle and wear weather-appropriate clothing and close-toed shoes geared for an outdoor activity on natural and uneven surfaces.

Registration and Location:

To register, go to: http://tiny.cc/fatherhennepin. We will meet at the corner of Third Avenue SE and Main Street SE, across from the Pillsbury A Mill.
