A lyrical portrait of Afrofuturist healing. The New Renaissance Pt. III is the Twin Cities directorial debut of nationally-touring spoken word poet, Joe Davis. More than just a soul concert and spoken word performance, but a unique theatrical production. It’s an immersive experience of interdisciplinary artists, musicians, singers, dancers, poets and painters crafting a beautifully imaginative world for you to step into: a lyrical portrait of Afro-futurist healing. As a ‘choreopoem', a word coined by playwright Ntozoke Shange, it’s “a vibrant interplay between movement and language.” The story invites you to join a motley crew of seven multi-verse musicians who, after finding a fragmented message left by their ancestors, learn that music can open up transdimensional portals. They embark on an epic quest in search of 'The Way' to healing and meet an ensemble cast of intergalactic guides who propel them further along a journey of self discovery and transformation.
