A program of folktale, folk song, and fable-inspired films with lots of country critters.

  • Mr. Frog Went a Courting, National Film Board of Canada, 1974. Evelyn Lambert’s beautifully animated version of the frog’s courtship of a mouse. 5 min.
  • Hen Hop, National Film Board of Canada, 1942. BBluegrass music accompanies a dancing chicken drawn by award-winning animator Norman McLaren. 4 min.
  • Rosie’s Walk, Weston Woods, 1970. An unsuspecting hen struts through the farm followed closely by a fox. 5 min.
  • The Tortoise and the Hare, Encyclopedia Britannica, 1979. A groovy vintage cartoon version of Aesop’s fable in which “slow and steady wins the race.” 9 min.
  • Frederick, Weston Woods, 1986. While the other field mice gather nuts and seeds for winter, Frederick dreams up stories in the sun. 6 min.
  • Bumble Boogie , Walt Disney, 1948. A bumble-bee in flight gets into swing-jazz piano madness. 3 min.

The extras: The Roe Family Singers perform original and traditional songs from their new album, The Owl, The Bat, and The Bumblebee.
