Second Story Reading Series: Laura Ruby and Carrie Mesrobian
Volunteer curated by children’s authors Swati Avasthi and Heather Bouwman, Second Story is the Loft’s reading series for young adult, middle-grade, and picture book authors. Perfect for families and readers of all ages, Second Story pairs an up-and-coming author with a more established voice in children’s literature. October's Second Story event pairs authors Laura Ruby and Carrie Mesrobian.
Laura Ruby writes fiction for adults, teens and children. Titles include the Edgar-nominated children's mystery Lily’s Ghosts (now updated for 2011), the ALA Quick Pick for teens Good Girls (2006), and a collection of interconnected short stories about blended families for adults, I’m Not Julia Roberts (2007). She makes her home in the Chicago area.
Carrie Mesrobian is the author of the young adult novel Sex & Violence, which Kirkus called “utterly gripping” in its starred review. Her second novel, Perfectly Good White Boy, will be published in fall of 2014, also by Carolrhoda Lab. Mesrobian holds an MFA from the Rainier Writers Workshop and regularly teaches classes at The Loft Literary Center. Visit her online at carriemesrobian.com.
