Minneapolis’ own “Downton Abbey,” 2445 Park Avenue is an exercise in what celebrated architectural historian Larry Millett refers to as “a rare example of the Venetian Gothic style in the Twin Cities” and “a little piece of Venice on Park Ave.”* Built in 1907 for lumber baron Anson Strong Brooks and designed by father-son team Long and Long (the elder having designed some of the city’s most prolific buildings, including the Richardsonian Romanesque Minneapolis City Hall), the imposing Brooks Mansion is constructed almost entirely of limestone with carved sandstone details. Inside, it’s a showplace for a lumber baron, replete with Circassian walnut, mahogany, and quarter-sawn oak.
 
The mansion is currently for sale for the first time in nearly two decades. This event offers a rare glimpse into one of Historic Park Avenue’s most impressive—and intact—gems. Park Avenue Historian Ryan Knoke will present on the history of the mansion and its context on the Minneapolis “Golden Mile.”
