May 21, 2019, Tuesday - Work Redux | BODIES at Machine Shop

Time: 7:30 AM – 10:30 AM

Location: Machine Shop, 300 2nd St SE

Work Redux | BODIES

Bodies. We all have them. Yes, they come in different sizes, colors, abilities, genders, and so forth. But one thing holds true for all bodies—they absorb our every experience, and that gives shape to who we are inside our bodies.

But what are we to do when life, and especially work, hasn’t been designed to make room for the unique beauty our bodies carry? It’s not a radical statement to say that traditional work culture could really care less about our bodies.

From the trauma our bodies hold due to disease, PTSD, or oppression, to how we heal our bodies, to growing movements in body positivity, Work Redux | BODIES will help us shed the layers of shame we carry for not meeting whatever expectations others put on us. We’ll hear from our speakers on how they’ve made room for their unique bodies, and are working to create that space for others. We’ll discuss what we can do as individuals to find and demand acceptance for our own bodies. And we’ll identify ways we can hold our work cultures accountable for nurturing every body.
