May 15, 2019, Wednesday - 9th Annual Art 4 Shelter at Machine Shop

Time: 6p 9p

Location: Machine Shop, 300 2nd Street SE

.
Art 4 Shelter will blossom this spring at the historic Machine Shop in Minneapolis on Wednesday, May 15th. The concept is simple: Buy Art, Give Shelter. Hundreds of generous art enthusiasts will gather to peruse original works of art without knowing who the artist is until after they make the purchase…it could be a piece by a well-known artist, a local favorite, or an emerging artist who is just starting out.
.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from the evening will directly support Simpson Housing Services’  shelter and supportive housing programs to people  experiencing homelessness in the Twin Cities.  The cost for one night of shelter at Simpson is $35, which makes the $35 price for all 5x7 works of art at Art 4 Shelter all the more compelling.  Since its inception, Art 4 Shelter has raised more than $610,000 which translates to 17,000 nights of shelter for Simpson guests and participants.

Free and open to the public, everyone is invited to view and purchase the pieces exclusively for the much buzzed about event on Wednesday, May 15th, 2019, at Machine Shop. Art Preview 6-7pm, Art Sale 7-9pm.

The high-energy exhibition begins with a preview hour and then explodes with the ringing of the 7pm bell when all attendees are welcome to take their favorite works of art directly off the gallery walls.  At that point, they find out if they hold a piece by a famous artist or are the first to discover an up-and-coming talent {all works of art are signed only on the back}. All 5x7s are $35, and 8x10s are $90. New art will be continually replenished throughout the evening for all partygoers as the festivities continue with complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres by D’Amico Catering.

The First Look Luncheon provides an opportunity to purchase artworks before the evening event commences. For $100 a ticket, such attendees can be the first to view and purchase the art from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm on Wednesday, May 15th at Machine Shop, all while enjoying a delicious lunch. Tickets are on sale now at Art4Shelter.org. The ticket price includes a seated luncheon provided by D’Amico Catering and guests will have an exclusive chance to view and purchase up to three original Art 4 Shelter artworks before anyone else.
.

The proceeds from this event directly support the remarkable work of Simpson’s staff and volunteers.  Last year alone, Simpson Housing Services served 2,453 people and placed 1,454 into safe and affordable housing, including 289 families with 649 children. According to Wilder Research’s 2018 Minnesota Homeless Study, the number of homeless people statewide has risen 10 percent since 2015. The state’s 10,233 homeless people is the highest number recorded in nearly three decades.
