Join author Robert Roscoe for an illustrated presentation based on his new book "Milwaukee Avenue: Community Building in Minneapolis." In the 1970s, a politically savvy and hardworking neighborhood organization, the Seward West Project Area Committee, stopped a proposed plan which would have demolished all of the houses on Milwaukee Avenue, houses that are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in the 1880s, many of these houses were the very first homes in Minneapolis. Milwaukee Avenue offers a unique look at how determined citizens saved their neighborhood in a decade that changed history. After his talk Roscoe will sign copies of his book which can be purchased in the Mill City Museum store.

Robert Roscoe has been involved in historic preservation activism and architectural planning for the Seward West neighborhood. He owns Design for Preservation, a residential design practice.
