Chronicled in Clay: Ceramics and the Art of the Story

Chronicled in Clay: Ceramics and the Art of the Story examines how contemporary artists express narratives in clay through text, imagery, multiples, and sequence. The jurors, Tetsuya Yamada (artist and faculty at the University of Minnesota), Monica Edwards Larson (MCBA Board member and artist / proprietress of Sister Black Press), and Torey Erin(MCBA Exhibitions and Artist Programs Manager) have composed an exhibition that provokes new perspectives and challenges traditional ideas of narrative and linear story telling through clay form. At a time when empathy, understanding, and sensitivity are needed more than ever, storytelling through visual art is an important, accessible means of expression.

We are looking forward to an intriguing and inspiring exhibition with the following participating artists:

Eileen Cohen, Minneapolis, MN
Derek Prescott, Columbia Heights, MN
Corie J. Cole, Colorado Springs, CO
Teri Power, Amery, WI
Paula McCartney, Minneapolis, MN
Nicole Roberts Hoiland, Saint Paul, MN
Stefana McClure, Newburgh, NY
Molly Streiff, Missoula, MT
Jennifer Rose Wolken, Springfield, MO

Chronicled in Clay: Ceramics and the Art of the Story is on view in the MCBA Main Gallery thru April 28, 2019
