The Magnet Film Club: Awakenings

Together we will celebrate the life of Director Penny Marshall with the 1990 film Awakenings starring Robert De Niro, Robin Williams and Julie Kavner. This film is based on the book "Awakenings" written by Oliver Sacks. Synopsis: "Dr. Malcolm Sayer is a shy research physician who uses an experimental drug to 'awaken' the catatonic victims of a rare disease. The awakening of the first patient proves a rebirth for the doctor too, as the patient reveals life's simple but sweet pleasures to the introverted doctor. Encouraged by Leonard's stunning recovery, Sayer administers the drug to other patients." (hclib.org). This film is rated PG-13 and is 121 minutes in length. The Magnet Film Club watches a variety of films. All are welcome. Funded by Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
