Taylor Mac: A 24-Decade History of Popular Music: The 20th Century Abridged
Equal parts bedazzled shaman, searing social critic, radical angel and Elizabethan fool, Taylor Mac (who uses “judy,” lowercase sic, not as a name but as a gender pronoun) has created internationally award-winning performance events that at once provoke and embrace judy’s diverse audiences. In A 24-Decade History of Popular Music: The 20th Century Abridged, Mac’s Guthrie debut, audiences can expect a musical romp through the 20th century, a subjective history told through songs ranging in genre from Tin Pan Alley to rock ‘n’ roll. With a five-piece band, this outrageously entertaining performance represents a piece of what is evolving into Mac’s most ambitious project to date - a 24-hour long marathon concert spanning 240 years.
Don’t miss this unique limited engagement! Taylor Mac: The 20th Century Abridged is part of SINGULAR VOICES/PLURAL PERSPECTIVES, a curated series of performance and community dialogue. Every performance is followed by a conversation with the audience.
Second show March 19, 7:30pm.
