Hear John Cage’s powerful, enchanting Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano as performed by Dr. David Shaffer-Gottschalk. Come early to observe Shaffer-Gottschalk preparing the piano according to Cage’s Table of Preparations, placing screws, bolts, nuts, strips of rubber, pieces of plastic, and a rubber eraser inside the piano. In a rare performance of the work, you are invited to experience one of the masterworks of modern music. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
General Admission: FREE (although tickets are free, reservations are strongly recommended).
