June 13, 2013, Thursday - Jackson Street Village Student Reading at The Loft

Tme: 6:00pm

Location: The Loft, Performance Hall, 1011 Washington Avenue South

For five months, The Loft has been working with two spoken word artists, Tou Saik Lee and Chaun Webster, who have taught three creative writing classes concentrating on the areas of poetry and spoken word, for underserved low-income youth of color in collaboration with Jackson Street Village in St. Paul. The mission of Jackson Street Village is to offer an affordable, sober, and supportive housing community to families transitioning out of homelessness into stable, healthy, productive lives. Their goals for the project include providing youth activities that are free and on-site, support self-expression, and help participants build self-confidence. The youth have written phenomenal poetry during their time working with Tou and Chaun, and now they’ll be coming to the Loft to perform their original poems, and to celebrate the launch of an original chapbook written by the teen poets, entitled “Poetic Rebels.” Please come hear these brilliant young people give voice to their phenomenal poetry!

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided by the Loft!
