Riverfront Walking Tour with Preserve Minneapolis

Event Description

A history-heavy tour of the riverfront, which may include original descriptions from the journals of St. Anthony Falls’ founders, including Father Louis Hennepin, Jonathan Carver, Zebulon Pike, and Stephen Long. An emphasis on the importance of the Falls themselves to both European/East Coast developers and the original Native American population will be covered, as well as the history of the mills and the remaining 19th-century buildings on Main Street. The tour will walk to Nicollet Island to share the history of the island and its close brushes with destruction, both at the hand of man and of nature, and on to Boom Island to talk about the lumber industry that originally brought so many people to the area.

The tour will walk about two miles. The tour guide is Holly Day.
