July 2, 2011, Saturday - Mill City Farmers Market

Time: 8:00am - 1:00pm

Location: 704 South 2nd Street

Today at Mill City Farmers MarketStrawberries!

PRODUCE PLANNER:
Snap peas, Hakurei turnips, radishes, spinach, spring salad mixes, arugula, spring onions, green garlic, head lettuce, herbs, wild greens, sorrel, asparagus, kale, Swiss chard, rhubarb, WI high tunnel-grown heirloom tomatoes, broccoli raab and green beans, and garlic scapes!
WHAT’S

NEW:
- Philip Hess from Home Hearth Grains is raising buckwheat for the first time this season. Buckwheat’s growing season is two to three months, so depending on weather and luck, freshly harvested buckwheat may be available by the end of the market season.
- Kirstin and Julie at Star Prairie Trout Farm always seem to sell out
of their favorite kind of smoked trout – the cajun. That may be
because they’re good at talking up its “perfect balance” between the spice and trout flavor. The fish sold on Saturday “was swimming on Thursday,” in natural artisan ponds by the Apple River that are 49 degrees year-round.
- Round out your shopping list at the Local D’Lish General Store, where you will find pasta, crackers, milk, butter, kefir, peanut butter and SO much more!

Mill City Cooks, 10:00am:
Though strawberries are delicious unadulterated, Market Chef, Heather Hartman invites two dynamic local food gurus to explore the wonders of this seasonal treasure – Chris Bundy of spoonriver restaurant and Jenny Breen of Good Life Catering and author of “Cooking up the Good Life.”

Discover You Can! Strawberry Fields: Learn how to make Strawberry Rhurbarb Jam with jam connoisseur, Zoie Glass of Lucille’s Kitchen Garden!

Live Music, 11:00am-1:00pm: Dean Harrington Trio

Book Signing, All Day:
Local food guru, Jenny Breen is spreading the word about “Cooking up the Good Life“!

Art Market, All Day:
