July 15, 2016, Friday - Fasting & Feasting at A-Mill Artist Lofts

Time: 6:00pm - 10:00pm

Location: A-Mill Artist Lofts, 315 Main Street SE (Enter at Performance Space on Main Street)

Fasting & Feasting

Ragamala Dance invites you to join them along the Mississippi River at the historic Pillsbury A-Mill Artist Lofts for this summer celebration. In India, food is symbolic of Annapurna—the goddess of food and nourishment—and is an integral part of ritual and festival. Guests at Fasting and Feasting will enjoy a delicious meal prepared by James Beard Award-winning Twin Cities chef Raghavan Iyer, who will discuss the interconnectedness of food, art and ritual in India. His talk will also focus on the traditions surrounding the board game of Paramapadam, which is a central inspiration for Ragamala’s in-development work, Written in Water.

Before dinner, guests will enjoy drinks and appetizers overlooking the river, gather to play Paramapadam, watch the premiere of a new short film on the creation of Written in Water and go on tours of the building, which includes an art gallery, music, painting and dance studios, and a roof deck with stunning views of the city. This event is made possible by an Engaging Dance Audiences grant administered by Dance/USA and made possible with generous funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

Only patron tickets to this event are tax-deductible. For information and tickets: https://squareup.com/store/ragamala-dance
