July 14, 2012, Saturday - Suminagashi: Japanese Paper Marbling with Aki Shibata at MCBA

Time: 10:00am-Noon

Location: Minnesota Center for Book Arts, 1011 Washington Avenue South

Suminagashi: Japanese Paper Marbling with Aki Shibata

Suminagashi is an ancient Japanese art form to decorate and marble paper using sumi ink. First, you float the ink on a tray of water, then make patterns and designs using oil, bamboo tools or even your own breath! You will make a one-of-a-kind design each and every time with Suminagashi. After marbling several papers, we will turn some of them into mini greeting cards. Then you can take the rest of your beautiful papers home to display, turn into more cards or use in other art projects. $33 ($30 members) per adult/child pair; $17 ($15) each additional participant. For families with children ages 6 and up.
