Featuring: Denim on Denim, Jenna Jean Alstad, Kayla Schiltgen Dance, and Mario Pérez
Denim on Denim is a long-form improv group from Minneapolis, comprised of several University of Minnesota graduates who are all generally silly/goofy human beings, and not to be trusted.
Jenna Alstad will present her play, The Girl that Grew Up Out of the Ground. Written in the fall of 2018, the piece explores relationships surrounding motherhood, childhood, and the coming of age journeys of those who have identified as daughters. Featured artists: Claire Loveall, Agustina Borre, Madeline Larson, Callie Tovar, Ayla Carbonell, and Tyanna Gross.
Kayla Schiltgen Dance is presenting work from Short Haul and Shantyman which are part of a project exploring the lost art form of sea shanties, and human-powered, community-based work. The project is inspired by Kayla’s interest in how work was done throughout history as well as a curiosity about how and why we work the way we do today and its impact on us. These are two sections of an in-progress, evening length work. Featured artists: Kayla Schiltgen, Haley Jensen, Crystal Secor, Stepheni Hubert, and Madelyn Schwartz.
Accompanied by Wesley Frye, Mario Pérez will be performing the following arias: "Il mio tesoro" from Don Giovanni by Mozart, "Fra poco a me ricovero" from Lucia di Lammermoor by Donizetti, "Ah, la paterna mano" from Macbeth by Verdi, and "Recondita armonia" from Tosca by Puccini. He is performing these pieces as "works in progress" as he tries to find his new voice in these larger roles for opera auditions.
